I semi understand coding, but mostly more like basic and stuff like that. I have never had to interact with any kind of 3d engine. most advanced thing I ever made was a black jack game, that had a realistic countable deck of cards.

I'd be down for working on a 3d game, but it would be more work.

And my story concept, as a tribute game, why not be the 3rd oracle game that never happened?

I agree 3d would be memorable but I have not yet learned how. If it is 3d I would suggest c ++ instead because it allows stuff like directly touching the stack and opengl is much more suited for it. Remaking LA in 3d was going to be the reason I learned c++ (haven't done so yet). It can still be done in java though. minecraft uses the lwgl libraries. My friend built a custom engine off of it wasn't meant to be implementable.

(it would be awesome if on the side the staff could set up a private git respiratory for us ^^)

Here's an idea for a basic plot. The game opens with a re-telling of the events of Skyward Sword. The game opens with Link and Zelda living near the resting place of the Triforce. Link suddenly has a terrifying nightmare that something terrible is going to happen. He grabs his sword and runs to the shrine where the Triforce is kept. There he sees the main villain: (Ganondorf of Ghirahim I would think) and some monsters kidnapping Zelda. Then the main villain reaches out and makes a wish on the Triforce. He wishes that the Surface be changed into a land of darkness and evil. Then the entire world becomes a terrible Evil Realm. A twisted and dead land. Link goes to the Master Sword pedestal, but finds it has disappeared. Monsters are everywhere and Link is unsure what to do. He then sees a strange owl; who tells Link to follow him. Link does so, and he follows the owl across the Evil Realm. The owl eventually comes across a small area around a door in a cliff where everything is green and alive as it should be. The owl tells Link that the door is the portal to the Sacred Realm, and its just powers are flowing out into the land. He tells Link that to save Surface, he must journey into the Sacred Realm. There he must pass the trials of the six goddesses of the Sacred Realm. (These trials are the quests and dungeons of the game) At the end of each quest (dungeon) he will find a sacred seal. (these are the six medallions from OoT). Link does all of this. He returns to the owl, but he finds him at the entrance of the Sacred Realm, where he suddenly turns into an old man. The old man senses that Link is curious about him and the medallions. He tells Link that he is a sage from the Sacred Realm who watches over the Surface at the behest of Hylia. He tells Link that the six medallions have little power to themselves, for Link has gained true power from the equipment and experience he gained achieving them. He tells Link that he must now journey to the Evil Realm and cleanse of its evil. Link must do this by re-uniting the Triforce and making a wish. He must first journey to Lanayru, where Zelda is being held in a deep dungeon. He tells Link she, the goddess will know Link agrees and journeys into the Evil Realm. Then he fights his way to Lanayru and saves Zelda from whatever evils the ZD put in front of him. Then Zelda tells Link that she has one piece of the Triforce, the Triforce of Wisdom. She tells Link he has the Triforce of Courage, but his piece hasn't awakened within him. She says the evil of the Evil Realm is suppressing its power. She then tells Link to journey to Faron, where he will find another evil dungeon and something to cleanse himself. Then Link escorts Zelda back to the Sacred Realm gate. He does what she asked and finally finds the Master Sword. The Master sword awakens Link's piece of the Triforce, and it glows brightly on his hand. Link then travels back to the Sacred Realm gate, where he finds the main villain has Zelda cornered. The sage tries to protect her, but he is quickly defeated. The villain then tells Link to come to his castle atop Death Mountain and get Zelda back. The sage tells Link he has to be careful and use all of his abilities, for it is clearly a trap to gather Link's Triforce. Link then courageously heads to Death Mountain and battles his way to the top. There he encounters our villain. The villain then makes declares that he will wish the Sacred Realm to become just as evil as the land of the Surface, and then we have our epic fight. At the end we have two possibilities. Ghirahim will declare that he may be finished, but evil will rise again. Ganondorf would declare that he is the very incarnation of evil, and he will rise again to haunt the world anew. Then Link gathers the pieces of the Triforce and wishes for Hyrule to be restored.

Then we have our happy little ending. Link and Zelda are saved. They store the Triforce in the Sacred Realm, for fear of what could happen if evil retrieved it again. Then Link gives the Sacred Seals back to the sage, who tells Link that he and Zelda should go forth and found a new kingdom where all the people of the world can live in peace and justice. He then tells Link to hep him think of a name. He tells Link people will love the land where the goddess Hylia rules. Then he gets it and tells Link to name it Hyrule. Then we have our ending.

Pretty solid for a first draft. Am I on to something? Questions? Comments? Concerns?

I cannot read huge block paragraphs. My brain blanks out. Put some paragraph breaks in there.

All of this design and programming stuff is precisely why you cannot give any of your writers/potential writers a single day to write a scenario or script. Ask me to just write a story and I'll probably put stuff in it that work as a straight-up story, but don't work gameplaywise. "This kind of item or spell wouldn't work, we cannot program that," and vice-versa... the folks on the programming end of things might stumble upon something really cool, after which they'll want the story-writer to incorporate it.

So, if we really are going to do this, it will take time and some general brainstorming between many people. No "come back to me in a day" ultimatums. I don't know dip about game programming, so I don't know what any of us are capable of. I don't want to write a story that sells either too high or too short.

If any of you have Hyrule Historia, you'll notice that many characters and scenes went through loads of discarded concept-arts before the game-teams settled upon particular elements and a solid design for any character, weapon, or settingg.

Even though I have nothing to really add here, I'm just going to stop in and say this looks really cool so far guys! The ideas and whatnot seem great and if all goes well then I'm sure we'd have a great fan made Zelda game

(Ganondorf of Ghirahim I would think)

Ghirahim is too fanficcy, and he's confirmed to be dead alongside Demise.

Ganondorf makes no sense either, unless we're using a post OoT-Link.

Regarding enemies, I believe we should have quick attacking enemies that are a mix of armored foes, projectile-using foes, contact-based foes (think chuchus), and AoE foes. :)

At first glance this sounds way too much like the Golden Goddesses legend. You should change it so it is more original.

It seems hard to believe that Demise has already been resurrected already. Let's have a new villan.

I know this is Zelda, but how in the name of bejeezus did Fletcher (a Hylian boy I assume) turn into a phoenix? If you want a bird-like companion, let's at least have a old wise Loftwing.

And lastly, the name Scale of Stones just sounds.... too dragon-y and less Zelda-y.

The entire dragon transformation thing seems way too tied to the plot. Let's have the dragon be one of many (say four) alternate forms.
The dragons aren't the golden goddesses. They're the same ones from SS: Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru. They differ from the goddesses, they didnt create the world, they just aided the hero in saving it.

Demise wasn't resurrected, the villain is a follower of his. We can use the demon queen Melantha that starred in my RP Stormy Skies.

Fletcher lived his entire life as a hylian. This is thousands of years after the SS era. He just kinda reincarnated into a phoenix, like what's seen in WW with King of Red Lions.

If you can think of a better name than Stone of Scales, go ahead.

Why not have the transformation tied to the plot? Wolf Link in TP was to a certain extent...as far as four transformations go, I don't think we can pull that off without being too similar to MM. Also, having it tied to the plot is good. We can't just be transforming for no reason.

*reads through other posts* Fletcher does get a loftwing, but again, this is thousands years difference. Do loftwings even live that long? I do like the different styles of dragons for different purposes though, and the roc's cape gliding sounds workable.

Lol i like how we all wanna do story.

Ok so if this is a community project, we should have a more organized way to decide on all of this.

... will make new thread for polls.

I would only be able to help if it was 3D project as I'm a computer animator. I guess you could say that I cheat because I don't need to draw :P

Even if we opted for a 2d game there will plenty of sprite work to be done, and tiles to paint.

If we did go 3d, do we have more then a single animator? After all, you'd be stuck pretty much crafting the entire map, and all objects on it/ all character models if we didn't, not that you couldn't do it, it just sounds like alot of work for a single person.

Also what software would you use?

Do you have some kind of sample work? Because we're going to want to have an original score / remixes as much as possible to make it our own game.

also while the enthusiasm for all these stories is cool to see, lets try to not make walls of text just yet (it crowds this thread, that needs to remained focused a bit), till we get more concrete things decided on

We can't do both my story and IHG's...we can't even combine the two somehow, mine is eons after SS, IHG's is like directly after.

*light bulb over head* We can have yours in the backstory! My villain Melantha could have been defeated there, and sealed in the sacred realm, only to escape thousands of years later. That would work, the she-demon wanted revenge on Link, Zelda, and the hylians. Avenge Demise's death and what not. Yes, the baddie is female. Because male villains are SO mainstream. </hipster>

And there's still the question of what we're using. Gamemaker or Zelda classic?

I like the idea of a female villain. Veran was a major villain, but that's the only one as far as major villains go in the series. I also like the idea of some story (a mash-up, a unique story born out of the programming capabilities and whatnot) that isn't a direct tie-in to any existing game, but is in its own era - that is, not the same Link as in any of the games, but maybe great-great granson, like how most of the games go.

If a Loftwing is involved... egg of an egg of an egg... The species doesn't go extinct right away.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a dragon that gains different abilities for different terrains as an alternate "Dark World" or "Sacred Realm" form. The water-type could move like a snake... snakes are pretty when they swim (though they do make me jump out of my local creek when I see 'em right quick).

Ah, I was about to propose this idea as well. A female main villain is my specification, though. Veran was major, but she wasn't main. That role was ultimately Ganon's, or depending on how you look at it, Twinrova's.

Regarding villains, if there's to be multiple villains, please don't make too many (or any at all) succumb to the "pawn" fate. :I

I think it would show that Evil isn't limited to dominating males... I mean, on the side of Good in Zelda, you have both Link *and* Zelda as well as the (largely absent) Goddesses and various lesser gods of good of various genders. The Evil-side seems to be mostly populated by males...

Demise, for instance, is very masculine - as is Ganondorf. It would be nice to have a female infected with the ur-Evil of Demise... I mean, cruelty knows no gender.

Actually, it was Dragonkat's idea... she mentioned a female villain.

I thought you were saying the exact same loftwing Fletcher had, my bad. I guess SoS(assuming we keep the title Stone of Scales) Link could get one, I'm thinking something similar to how you get Epona in OoT. Where it's optional and not required, but a cool way to travel. Another idea is to make it so that's how you warp. Think using Fly in Pokemon.

Threw together a sprite...western dragon Link. It probably looks like crap, I'm not the best at scratch spriting. If we have to we can find existing sprites and edit/recolor/whatever them.
dragonlinksprite.png
That's how he looks in the original concept. If we include other types of dragons, they'll have the same coloration.

And random tiny gameplay idea. Since we're making a 2d PC game and none of the 2d games feature targeting, maybe to activate the monster analysis, you click on the monster...
