Games so bad you personally retcon them

There are many bad games out there. If a bad game is a stand alone story and not part of a franchise then any hope of a series spawning from that title pretty much dies.

But if a bad game shows up in a long standing franchise, it doesnt mean that the franchise will be killed by that installment. Final Fantasy is still going despite numerous horrible games.

Being a fan of a franchise means you agree to take the risk that a bad game may happen but you have enough hope and faith in the dev team that a disappointing game in the franchise may not be a wholly terrible one.

The other problem with being a fan of a franchise is that when this bad game does come (and it will) it can have a horrific effect on the lore of the series you love so much. These games can go some way into hurting the series as a whole.

So... which games in which franchises that you love have been so terrible to play and ruined the canon so terribly that you yourself erase them from their franchise?

I'd like to say Skyward Sword but I don't feel I can retcon it. It introduced Hylia and she is now appearing in BoTW. With any luck Nintendo will retcon most of the rest of the game themselves.

Four Swords Adventures I can however. They seem to have no connection to the rest of the series and makes no real sense being after Twilight Princess or anywhere else in the timeline. I retcon he capcom Zeldas as well because again they don't make sense in the timeline, elements present such as force pop up and are never seen again in the main games.

Oh and let's not forget Tri Force Heroes, though I try not to even think about that entry if I can help it. No explanation required.

I think most would agree that it'd benefit the star fox series if they ignored command and made another follow up to assault
unfortunately, those goons ignored the series entirely and just rebooted it,so now im hoping they ignore that reboot too

Absolutely. Or at the very least, they could have somehow combined the endings to make a "true ending" of sorts like Shadow the Hedgehog did. Otherwise it would probably best be retconned. This all being said, while I got enjoyment out of Zero, I like to take the story and sort of assimilate it into what constitutes the Lylat Wars as told in three games in my head-canon.

I would also include Gears Judgment, but the story was actually decent. It was just the overall controls and other decisions that hindered the experience. So unfortunately for this thread, it's off my list.

I ignore anything after Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I acknowledge RE0, REmake, RE2, RE3, RE:Veronica Chronicles. Anything after that is not a Resident Evil game, I refuse to play them or even talk about them.

Skyward Sword shat all over the lore and should be condemned.

Metroid Other M shat all over Samus and should be utterly obliterated from human recollection.

Mass Effect 3 was just plain shat and should be made an example of. Cautionary tales need to be written about this travesty.

Skyward Sword never happened.
Other M never happened.
Mass Effect ended a different way. There's head cannon for that.

Other M
Four Swords Adventures
Four Swords
Skyward Sword
Tri Force Heroes
Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush/Curse
DMC: Devil May Cry
FF13 Trilogy

Every Sonic game after Sonic and Knuckles

Killer Instinct Xbox One. It might not be bad to play but the fact it exists at all and on the Xbox one makes me want to condemn it to the far reaches of Outworld (Geddit? Oh it was funny and you know it.)

Oh I remember another...Halo 5

Had I known what 5 would turn out to be I would have rather the series ended with 4. It seemed like they had a good direction going but 5 gets its diarrhea all over it.

Is it really that bad? I haven't gotten an Xbox One yet, and was looking forward to playing more Halo

It depends what you are in it for. If you just like shooting things then you can do that but if you do like the story of Halo then 5's plot is complete and utter garbage. If you haven't played I won't spoil it but you may find you wished you hadn't afterwards.

What the actual ****, is this for real?

That it exists or that i dont like it?

If its the fact you didnt know it was a thing then look it up, you might like it, i hope you do.

If its the fact that i dont like it then leave me alone, i can choose to like and dislike what i want. I loved KI 1&2/Gold growing up. They were two of my favourite games. I loved the characters, the tone, the style and the way it played. Those two games influenced me a lot in my personal tastes and very few games have made such an impression on me.

I was genuinely gutted when Rare moved to Microsoft and became shadows of their former selves. After Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Perfect Dark Zero and Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts i dreaded a new KI game showing up because, like those other games, Rare had proven they werent the same company anymore...

Its a fact that when KI on Xbone did release that most of the creative talent behind 1&2 had left the company. New blood and those who remained to helm the new game, in my opinion, missed the mark of KI.

Sure reboots are fresh, new, different but most still manage to retain the core or what made them special. To me, KI Xbone just doesnt have what used to make it special.

Ive followed the news as each character has released and i've felt a part of me wither and fade away each time. It looks like a lame imitator of the original KI games, not something that should carry the name with pride into a new generation. The returning characters look tacky and the new characters just feel very uninspired, some even make me feel like theyre designs rejected from the last Mortal Kombat game.

The only new thing to come out of this new game that calls itself KI that i like is a character called Hisako. But even then i think i only like her because i love Kayako Saeki from the Ju-On/Grudge films and Hisako is pretty much a copyright-dodging clone, so of course i was going to like her.

Her theme tune was pretty good too, actually that's a plus; Mick Gordon did well with some of the music in this game.

So yeah, the new KI felt like an insult to me, someone who truly loved the originals, so dont get on my case and try to make out my opinion as being wrong.
