Future Zeldas Need More Customization.

It doesn't have to be to the extent of rpgs, but we need a little more:

1. I would like the idea of being able to buy and furnish a house. Of corse, this will require larger towns but if they allowed the player to buy one house in every town it would be fun.

2. Clothes. Perhaps a heavy coat for snowy, cold areas of the game, a lighter leather armor for some other overworld areas. Once again, I don't want to have 1000 different clothes combinations, maybe 50 different items and the ability to adjust the color of them, maybe even allow you not to wear the cap. You could store clothes in closets around the world.

3. The ability to buy different modes of transportation. You could buy a boat, horse (a pack mule for more trecherous terrain, lighter horses for speed, heavier ones for fighting. Espona would be considered a mix of both), a raft, ect.

I doubt it will ever happen, but it's just a thought of mine.

I don't really like customization.
It's most of time useless, and the developpers should better
work on the game itself...

I think it's just a way to make the game longer, so I wouldn't like to see it in LoZ, at least not too much.

They did something similar with the boat in Phantom Hourglass, and while fun, it did just drag out gameplay if you wanted to search for all of the parts. I did think that was fun, but really, it's a way to make a video game artificailly longer.

if the parts did have some significance to your statistics, then it would be neat, but if it's just for the sake of customization, then I'm not too interested. I liked the various customizable armour and clothing in the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic game because of the changes to your character beyond the physical aspect.

The house customization I really don't see a point to. This is more of an MMOPRG element. I rarely, if ever returned to Link's house. It's not really somewhere to hang out and relax in. Besides, there's so many other things that can be done, and there's a story at hand, so hanging out and placing furniture and paintings in a house for Link is not too interesting to me.

I think house customization works in MMOPRG's to waste time between missions, or to have something to do if your friends aren't online, or to get the player to waste gameplay time so they will buy another month of subscribtion.

I would be more interested in being able to have a closer examination of items in Link's house that are pre-existing. I would have liked to have a closer look at photos on his walls in TP, but on closer inspection, they were just blurry pictures of goats and Ordon.

I've always wanted some customization in the series, especially when some aspects of it alter gameplay, e.g. the winter coat allows you to survive in cold weather and resist cold attacks.

I also don't care much about custom things in zelda. At least not with clothes or something.
But it would be cool if you could have a wide variations of swords or at least by forging.
Kinda like in MM with razor sword but not only as an upgrade but differents types of options with own unique attributes.

Well, unlike Oni I don't want my weapons or clothes to have important attributes like, 30 attack, 45 armor, 50 defense. No. That would suck. It makes it to MMORPG complicated like. I would however like to have just a few more options for clothing. Just a few. Maybe they would have special things. Like the Zora Armor lets you breath underwater, the Goron Armor makes you immune, or at least resistant to fire/lava. But both of these would have weaknesses to enemies attacks and or weapons. Where as the Kokiri/Hero's/Green Tunic would just be average across the board. Maybe they could add in some other clothes. Such as maybe, a Zelda Dress so you could sneak in the Castle, and the guards would think you are Zelda. (Kazumi thinks that would be funny) Maybe there could be some sort of Tunic that would allow you to hover, or maybe fly. Or maybe just travel faster. There are quite a few possibilities.

As for the house customization, again, just a little would be OK. I've always thought it would be cool if you could sort of.. Move to a different town. Maybe they could make this part of the plot. Maybe you could get just a few special items that you could put in your house. Like maybe a Rupee Holder Thing so you can store Rupees there. Then you wouldn't have to worry about getting rid of your full wallet before going into the next Dungeon. I loved the Cow you could get in OoT. It was always nice to have an awesome Cow pet in your tree house, plus you could get milk from it. Again. I don't want to much customization, but a little bit more would be OK.

The only things I could really see being fun to customize is weapons (Other than the Master Sword...), It would be fun to be able to change the shape or colour of weapons until you got them to your liking.

I think it would be fun to be able to go to a Blacksmith's and either pay for them to make you a sword or edit your own, Infact they could even let you do it, But this may be going a little too far, I would like to be able to change the colour of the actual Blade, Imagine running around with a Ruby Red or Electric Blue sword, I think it would look cool but this is also unlike Zelda.

I would like to see some more customization but only for the weapons, I disagree with being able to change the colour of a Tunic that you are wearing, Link is famous for a Green Tunic (and in some games a Blue and Red one) but I wouldn't like the idea of being able to change the colour of the tunics.

I also disagree with changing anything other than Gloves and Boots really, I like Link's Tunic and Hat as they are, I would be disappointed to see this getting changed. It would be cool to be able to give Link different forms of Armour though like Chain Mail or Plate Mail Armour. Maybe able to mess around with you armour aswell, But I doubt Nintendo will think of doing this or if they have they would have simply discarded the idea.

Infact being able to change tunics is a great idea for my Online thread though as this was much like what Halo did, I will give you credit for the idea :).

I just don't think that customization is what this series is about. I mean the idea is that this kid/teen from some farm rises from obscurity and , against all odds, triumphs over some unspeakable evil. Why, in the course of his quest, would Link take the time to buy or furnish a house?... I suppose it wouldn't ruin the game but I don't think it would add anything. More outfits for certain situations would be ok but unless it had a reason to be there in the story I just think it is unnecessary. What I could go for is a little more open gameplay... I guess I like sidequests and would like to see more of them..

Mm, the house thing, not so much, as previously said, it's to mmorpg for Zelda, but extra clothing, i've always wanted that, i always wanted like purple black white yellow, all that sort just for the hell of looking different, i mean how many zeldas can you actually change your tunic color, only one i can think of and that is Oot, so a bit of difference, cause no offence to the game, but green is so yesterday :P

Using a Gameshark, you could actually get a black, yellow, and white tunic for Link as well in OoT. They didn't do anything special though. Also, Link changed his tunic color in many games.

*The Legend of Zelda - The blue ring, increasing your defence, would change Link's clothes to blue. The red ring, increasing your attack, would change them to red.

*Adventure of Link - Using the Sheild Spell would change Link's clothing to red. (a temporary change, however)

*Ocarina of Time - As you mentioned above.

*Link's Awakening DX - Accessing the Color Dungeon allowed you to choose either a Red or Blue tunic. Red increased attack, and blue increased defence. Once you chose one, you could go back and choose the other, but you couldn't get the green one back.

Then there are some other titles, like A Link to the Past, which gave you the ability to get better clothes, changing their color to red, then blue later on, which increased your attributes (like in LoZ), but you couldn't really alternate between the two. Once you got the blue one, thats what you wore. Also, Wind Waker's second quest is played in Link's starter clothes: Blue shirt and orange pants. Again, this was a permanent thing throughout the game.

As for the topic of the thread, I think customization would be a plus to a new Zelda title. I wouldn't go as far as to customizing the weapons of the game, as that would be too much like an MMO. But like clothes (as Jericho mentioned), your house, possibly your horse or whatever ride you are given, etc. One thing about Zelda is that there are only so many things you can buy with rupees. In the end, why go to a shop and spend them on arrows or bombs when you can cut down some grass and find the same junk out in the field? I think customization would allow the player to make the game more his or hers. It has always been a known fact that Link is a representation of the player, so why not expand on it? Why not allow the player to change their hair color, clothes, house, etc.? I would even like to see Zelda have the option to choose the gender of the hero/heroin. Of course, future games or artwork would always show a male, green-clad Link, and probably base everything off of that same design. But it doesn't necessarily mean the player has to follow that mold.

That would be pretty cool. It might get a little like Fable though. I don't think that's the direction Nintendo wants to go with Zelda. I mean, I would enjoy it, and I'm sure a lot of other people would, but Nintendo likes to be original.

I guess if they made it optional, not necessary to the core elements of the game, just something extra for players that like that sort of thing. The thing with houses though, actually buying a house, seems too much like Fable, or even Oblivion for that matter. Maybe just Link's house. He usually has a house, so upgrading it wouldn't be too big of an issue. As for clothing, as long as you can't completely change Link's look, it might be alright. This goes back to it being two much like RPG games. If it's a coat of sorts, for cold areas, that matches well with Link's outfit, then there wouldn't really be a problem with it. Perhaps a lighter tunic with shorter sleeves or something, for volcanic areas.

Probably will never happen though.

A little bit of customization might be nice, but I really don't want Zelda to turn into something it isn't. Further tempering of swords could work, because we've had that in ALttP and MM. Even fixing a broken sword or item could be interesting. Some MMOs have it where your item has its own "health" bar, so you know when you need to fix it up. Strengthening items/weapons might be interesting, too.... perhaps adding STR, DEF, and other stats into the games might make it pretty interesting. Still, I wouldn't want it too developed, because that's just not what Zelda is.

I do think that tunics need to have more of an impact of gameplay. Already we have different tunics for different extremes, but what about higher or lower defense, elemental damage and resistance, and so on and so forth. Upgrading from plain cotton to something with chainmail could be interesting, and perhaps even unlockable weapons and armor would be nice.

Maybe one or two missions... but not too many. I like sidequests, so I'd like to keep it to something like bigger sidequests, such as OoT's Biggoron Sword quest. Housing... no. I mean, really, what's the point? Link is an adventuring hero. He just doesn't have time for that. I do like the idea of different methods of travel, though. I get bored of the horse, so having to use a boat or a cannon again, heh heh, wouldn't be too bad.

Still, if customization was further developed in Zelda, I would not want it to be mandatory. Not everybody wants to do that, so should it be implemented, it'd better be optional.

NO. This completely changes Zelda. It just wouldn't feel right, it just wouldn't be right. It would be a different game in a different series if they included all this.

With regards to the ability to customize your clothes. No. No way. I don't like to see Link in any clothes other that the hero's tunic. It could be interesting to an extent, e.g Zora tunic, Goron tunic and the magic Armour. However, to be able to change the colout of these clothes yourself? Change the design? That would be a waste of time used by nintendo to distract you from the storyline. I hate when they do this in games and always end up wearing the default clothing.

On your idea about transport, I think it would be interesting if you had to acquire a boat, or go on a quest for someone who would then allow you to borrow their horse and kart or something. However, I don't think any horse could replace Epona. There is something about this horse, the bond formed between him in OoT by Link playing her song, and how she rode so well for him then carried on into TP. Epona is Links most loyal and faithful ally and one of Links only friends. I cannot see him replacing her.

The idea of customizing your own house is the only one that truly interests me. However, I do not agree with the idea of buying your own furniture and such from shops in town, and I am strongly against the idea of Link owning multiple houses. Last time I looked, getting on the property ladder is not one of Link's priorities. However, I think it would be very fun, if at some point in the game, some side quest allowed you to gain a house. From then on, you could do side quests which would, effectively reward you with items for your house. However, I don't mean like chairs and tables like you think. I mean like cows (I loved this in OoT) and a training doll, Trophies, you could have a fish tank where you could keep a fish you caught (I.E Hylian loach) for me, this would add alot to the game. I love when this happens in games (reminisces about secret bases in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald)

To be honest, I hadn't considered it like that. I do agree that owning property is not one of Link's priorities, but you do make a good point about having things like cows, a training doll, a fish tank, and so on and so forth. I remember when I was catching fish in OoT, I wanted to keep them, but instead the fishing guy kept them in his own tank. Being able to keep trophies and whatnot that you can earn in stuff like shooting games would be pretty nice.

I do have to agree with some of the other posts, customization wouldn't be ideal, I can hardly recall any point that I've returned to Link's house in any of the games. If it was a spin off, take FFCC: My Life as a King as an example, that would be an interesting game but for the general Zelda, not really. As for the clothes that's not such a bad idea, I always thought for little ol' Link, in Majora's Mask, to be able to survive at Snowhead was a bit unrealistic. For different transportation, that'd be a great feature but Nintendo has yet to create a Hyrule with such a differentiating style to need various kinds, so hopefully they will this time around.
