Twilight Princess Finished TP, Final Thoughts.

I started playing TP when it first came out on the gamecube and I stopped right before the Lakebed Temple. The wolf thing was really throwing me off. After completing Skyward Sword, I picked up TP on the Wii and decided to try to beat it again (almost 6 years later).

Once again I wasn't really feeling the wolf thing, but it was the bugs you had to collect that was the worst part. It made the wolf portion and human parts feel like two different games. After I got through all that, past the Lakebed Temple, it started to feel more like a Zelda game.

First what I didn't like about the game. The wolf parts in the beginning were annoying, but it was better later on. Also, I feel the world is way too big for it's own good. It feels very empty, especially Hyrule field. The dungeons also suffered from this, I would think there would be a ton to do in a room, but I would breeze right through it and feel like it's all wasted space. You could explore and find all kinds of treasure, but it felt pointless. The graphics were good, but the game felt brown and dark.

The game had a lot of good parts too. There were some really neat new characters as well as some cool new weapons and items, though many are underused. Most of the dungeons were pretty good, though the bosses were easy. My top three are Arbiters Ground, City in the Sky, and the Temple of Time. I feel the story was pretty strong and interesting and the ending was good. (spoiler) I did not like how Zant turned out. He seemed so mean and bad all game, then he takes off his mask and he's a twisty freak and turns out to be a weak pawn.

Overall, I'm glad I beat it, but I don't think I'll play it again, maybe in like 10 years. I recently finished the Wind Waker as well, and I found that game to be much more fun and vibrant. Twilight Princess is my least favorite 3D Zelda, though it is still a good game.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I'm pretty well known here for disliking TP. TP is to me what SS is to Ventus. ;)

I agree with you about Wolf Link. I never enjoyed the Twilight portions. Each one is more tedious than the one before. And the Wolf gameplay is limited and boring. The size of the world is indeed too big for it's content. I agree with you on that, too. I also agree with you about the dungeons. For me, every single one of them was a breeze. Nothing in TP ever presented a challenge to me. None of the dungeons, none of the enemies, none of the bosses either. However, I disagree with you about the story. I didn't like it much. I felt it was pretty weak. I also strongly dislike many of the characters, especially Ilia and Midna. But I agree 100% with you about Zant. I was not pleased with how he turned out at all.

It's always interesting to hear other people's thoughts on a game, and it's also fun to compare them with your own. Thanks for sharing with us. :)

Really my only major complaint with the game, I mean sure, they missed a few opportunities (I was pretty upset with the length as well as the pathetic final boss ), but I really thought it was the most epic feeling game I've ever played (yeah that's right, you heard me Skyrim).

TP is my fav game so far and I played it over and over again for many times. The biggest complaint I have with this game is how easy it is. You can almost finished it blindfolded. I loved Zant even when I found out he was a maniac. I do believe they could have done a bit more with it though. The overworld was huge and indeed empty although as wolf Link you can find a couple of hidden caves. But besides that there was not much to explore and I love to explore things

This is perhaps the best description of the Wolf Link portions that I've read. Now I don't hate Wolf Link as a whole, but the forced segments were really mundane, to the point where playing as Wolf or Human were two totally different things. I think it was the lack of things to do -- Wolf Link essentially had two functions which were jumping to higher locations and collecting tears of light whereas Human Link played the 'Zelda' portion of the game. I appreciate the Tears of Light sections for trying to place something new within the series (the concept was later refined with Skyward Sword's Silent Realms, a much appreciated addition), but Wolf Link didn't seem to blend well with the Zelda format.

Also, I feel the world is way too big for it's own good. It feels very empty, especially Hyrule field. I wholeheartedly agree. TP's Hyrule Field was a location that looked somewhat pretty but had essentially nothing to do aside from the odd grotto here and there, and of course Poe Collection and Golden Bugs. Unfortunately, the game palette suffers from an oversaturation of greens, greys and brown. Perhaps it was trying to create a somber feeling, but to most it came off as stale choice.

(spoiler) I did not like how Zant turned out. He seemed so mean and bad all game, then he takes off his mask and he's a twisty freak and turns out to be a weak pawn.
Yeah, Zant going all wacko on us without any real precedent wasn't the best choice on Nintendo's part. They could've done far better in my opinion!

I'm not too sure about TWW, but I can agree TP isn't the greatest Zelda game. I'm glad you at least gave it a try, though! ;)

Can't say I agree about The Wind Waker. The overworld was boring as ****, most of the dungeons were really lame, and it's ridiculously forgiving in its difficulty, more so than Twilight Princess. Everything else, though, I could say I agree on. Except for it being my least-favorite 3D Zelda game.

My biggest complaint about TP is that if your going to have a huge Hyrule Field, you have to densely populate it.

Yeah, after playing through the whole game its like they tried to make a sequel to OoT with some Majora's Mask oddness thrown in. If they would have concentrated on making a more pure experience and shrunk the overworld and maps I would have enjoyed it more.

Skyward Swords regions were small but dense which I enjoyed. In TP, I didn't find myself wanting to explore because there was just too much bland area to explore.

I'm just surprised you could complain about TP's overworld being empty and then enjoy Wind Waker....

The sea was somewhat empty, but it looked great and you had the storms and random things popping out. Nothing like sailing and then you get sucked into a whirlpool and the big octos come out.

Hyrule field was one color and you could traverse it the whole game and never have to fight anyone. I also wish they had a sun song or song of passing in TP. It was lame that SS was day all the time. Luckily the warps really helped out both TP and TWW.

Hyrule field wasn't filled with things to do, true, but the dungeons and towns were far more interesting, along with the epic story.

The thing that you have to keep in mind is that Twilight Princess was released after the Wind Waker, which split the fanbase. TP was released to energize the fans and bring the older ones back, so they had to use alot of ideas and cocepts that were familiar to us, so they chose to go with the game that is arguably the greatest game of all time and still is the highest rated game of all time. Twilight Princess served its purpose, but split the fanbase yet again.

I agree with you on the epic feeling even if the game did not add up to all the fans expectations.

You know, I will never understand why there is so much dislike of Twilight Princess. It really must not be that good of a game, because it's generally a consensus that TP failed to deliver. I guess I'm just a weirdo; I thought TP was/is a masterpiece. I love virtually everything about that game and I've replayed it several times and have had a ball each time. I think it's a wonderful Zelda game and I really can't see what so many people have against it. Oh well. :kawaii:

But anyways, congrats on beating the game!
