The Ancient Robots do have capacity to have emotions. All robots have their own opinions and personalities. Skipper is also a good example. He cares for his crew and family. You can even see that on the portraits of his house.
Regarding Fi, the goddess created her with a purpose. She was not meant to understand emotions. But apparently that is not necessarily true. She shosw admiration, certain level of concern, she is even confused to Scrapper's crush on her remaining silent for a moment. And in the end, she does confess she is starting to understqnd happiness and that Link's time with her are the best memories she has and hopes they will meet again once more. So even if she still does not understand emotions in a emotional way (but to some level intelectually) she seems to have the capacity to develop them. So it seems even beings design not to understand emotions can develop them in their heart.
