Female Link

Sir Quaffler

May we meet again
I love the idea of Link being a girl. Link's physical apperance is feminen enough & it would be great to have another awesome character the growing list of heroines. But, I dont feel right about it.

Oh Oh I've got an idea! What if it was a kind of form or spell? Like Link turning into a bunny in the dark world or turning into a Deku when he puts on a mask. I rather have Link being a girl an option instead of having the beloved triforce of courage holder a female and-

Oh I have another idea! What if we had a game where the triforces were switched up, "Zelda" being Power or Courage, "Ganon" being Courage or Wisdom, & "Link" being Wisdom or Power? Link would still be the Playable character, but it could be interchangable? or am i on a completely different subject?

Oh oh oh I've also got an idea! What if they give us a Gerudo Mask to allow us to change into a female Gerudo warrior whenever we want! That'll be awesome!

Well, I'm going to sound really sexist here, but . . . no. With Link being a girl you just don't have "The Hero." You lose the whole idea of saving the damsel in distress, which I don't think we should do, as much as I LOVE games that don't even have anything remotely similar to that situation. There is no "girl saving a girl" and there is no "girl saving the prince." It just doesn't work that way, I'm sorry, but it doesn't. Besides, I'm a girl and if they gave me the option for Link to be a girl, I would make him a guy anyway. Would anyone else?

You're right; if Link were a girl, she wouldn't be "The Hero". She would be "The Heroine", which is, in essence, a female Hero. There is nothing that even remotely suggests that a girl saving a damsel in distress would be eliminated; that is just old customs playing pretense because they've never seen it happen before and thus it couldn't work. Believe me, a girl can save a girl. I've seen it happen in my school way too many times for me to say otherwise. A girl can even save a prince; if you've ever played the game Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Keyblade Master Aqua saves all of her friends and, this is where it counts, the prince who ends up with Cinderella. Would a female Link be different? Of course! Would it change the gender of Zelda? NOPE! Would it tear down the old customs? Not exactly -- you would replace a male with a female, but otherwise, nothing is changed.

I would love to see Link being as a female. It would actually be a bit feminine and some bravery that a female hero counterpart can really bring out the statement of a female hero. I would actually love to see Link as a female in action fighting against (I guess female Ganondorf).:P

To be honest, I really don't see what bearing Link's gender has on the Legend of Zelda at all. It wouldn't matter if he was male or female, Link would still be Link. Nothing would really change in the grand scheme of things.

In regards to Zelda being the main character because of receiving the Triforce of Courage from Link, I am again indifferent. Zelda doesn't necessarily need the Triforce of Courage to bravely set out against danger (in fact, most Links in the series either never had it or had to piece it together physically rather than being gifted with it). Zelda as the main character would create some interesting new scenarios, like how she might use her magic or even diplomatic skills to progress in the game and tackle sidequests. Nintendo would have to be careful and meticulous about story implementation, though: princesses do not simply head out on their own to conquer dungeons and slay monsters. Actually, that sounds a little too similar to Wand of Gamelon, another non-canonical Zelda game which met with horrible reception. However a Zelda-centered story is used, it has to make plenty of sense for royalty to be out wandering alone.
