The question is simple: Who is your favorite vocalist? To you, which singer(s) have the best voice?

A few of mine include...

John Cooper, from Skillet

Johnny Gieoli, from Crush 40

Miles Kennedy, from Alter Bridge

Now, what about yours? :)

Russell Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob, Star One)

Just LISTEN TO THAT SONG. It says so much about his vocal abilities. Perfectly suited for Symphony X, which was very progressive back in the day and utilized a wide range of emotions. It's unfortunate that he's chosen to use a harsher voice almost exclusively for recent records, but he still does a great job. He really sounds like he can sing anything and sing it well.

Ronnie James Dio (Dio, Rainbow, Black Sabbath):

Incredible range, suited for a number of styles. The best thing about him? His voice was incredible until the day he died. That's rare, even for many of the best vocalists.

Roy Khan (Kamelot):

An unconventional metal vocalist.

I'll post more later.

Pete Loeffler (Chevelle). An amazing singer, I absolutely love his voice, and he has the best scream EVER.

Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle). Maynard James Keenan. 'nuff said.

Thom Yorke (Radiohead). This man can make you feel any emotion he could possibly want with his amazing voice. Words cannot describe how incredible this guy's voice is.

Claudio Sanchez (Coheed & Cambria). The amount of flak he gets for his voice is impeccable, but I freaking love this guy's vocals. The album Year Of The Black Rainbow is a perfect example of his singing ability and range.

Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). Trent Reznor isn't the best singer out there, and he doesn't have the greatest voice ever, but it works so well with his music, and his voice is really cool.

Without a doubt, my favorite female vocalist has to be Whitney Houston. She is considered by many (me included) to be the best singer who ever lived. The video below is one of her live performances of "I Will Always Love You". She is one of only a handful of vocalists that actually sounds better live than recorded. Listen to the two choruses in the song below and tell me if they can be topped.

My favorite male vocalist has to be Steve Perry. Steve Perry has done tons of great work as a solo artist, but is best known as the lead singer for the band Journey. Journey is one of my all time favorite bands, and like Whitney Houston, Steve Perry actually sounds better live than studio recorded.

Bjork- she has a unique style of singing and way of enunciating words.

Beth Gibbons of Portishead- She has the voice of an angel- so melancholy and light.

Kate Bush- listen to her falsetto in Wuthering Heights- to some it is grating, to me it is bliss. She is an amazing artist.

Tori Amos- America's Kate Bush. I love the passion in her voice. I feel inspired when I hear her production work- she harmonizes and layers her voice wonderfully.

Joni Mitchell- Unfortunately cigarettes have ravaged her innocent, 1st soprano singing of the 60's. She now sounds like a jazzy poet, which is cool too.

David Bowie- He has revamped his image so many times and pushed the envelope with each record. He sounds amazing live too.

Trent Reznor- I find his voice incredibly sexy. Like Dr3W1 said above, he isn't the best singer technically. He reminds me of Bob Dylan and Neil Young in that aspect- you don't have to be the best singer, but have a unique voice.

Maynard James Keenan- he is the best male vocalist in rock music- my opinion of course. I love it when he screams then sings quietly all within the same song.

Thom Yorke- the only man I love to hear hit those high notes.

Robert Smith of the Cure- when he sings I feel everything he must've felt while writing the songs.

Chilfo Freeze

Emma Jean Stone
Christina Aguilera. When she hits those high notes, I get shivers down my spine. Her vibrato is natural, compared to the many singers today who have to work that into their voice.

She's also hot.
