I pretty much like anything from the Metroid series, it takes up 25% of my MP3 player's playlist. Obviously, Zelda is also up in my favorite's (50% of my playlist, the last 25% is Beatles tunes). Some of my all time favorite music though is from the Bioshock series and Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I liked how they took some actual music from those time periods and put them in the game. Made it feel real.

My top two favs are no contest as far as I'm concerned.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has some seriously infectious tunes. There is hardly a song in that game that is not expertly wrought and wonderful to hum. Very memorable.

The music of Robyn Miller and Tim Larkin for Cyan World's Myst and URU series of games respectively (prior to Myst III) are among some of the most haunting, emotional, and surreal soundtracks in any video game. Every tune is entirely instrumental or operatic (other than some contributions courtesy of Peter Gabriel for Myst IV and URU) and make heavy use of strings and percussion. the Myst games wouldn't have half the heavy sense of atmosphere they're known for without their eclectic music adding to the ambiance.

In general, my favorite video game music comes from:

LoZ: OoT/MM
Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
Xenogears
Okami/den - Especially Ryoshima Plains
Super Mario RPG
Paper Mario
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2
Lunar 1 and 2
Golden Sun (the first two)
Dark Cloud 2
Dragon Quest III

No particular order up there; those are just the games that come to my mind.

I made a sort of joke post last time, but I'll be serious with this one. I'll choose my five most favorite soundtracks (only one from each respective series) and my favorite song from each of them.

  • Skyward Sword
  • Metroid Prime
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D
  • Darksiders II
  • Super Mario Galaxy

As lame as the game was, I loved the soundtrack from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. It was one of the early SNES games to make good use of the 8 channel sound and included some more rarely heard instruments like the french horn, timpani, and a trap set.

Other than that, Mega Man 4, Castlevania III.

After music starting being orchestrated, it just sort of became a part of the ambiance, which is great, but tracks rarely stand out to me any more.

I don't think any games music in particular has really touched me on the inside, it's more that I hear a song or two in a game and I get shivers of epicness or start crying from the beauty. Although I think the only game that delivered consistent well made music that has really stuck with me ever since has got to be OoT.

Lost woods
Zelda's lullaby
Every single song we learn on the ocarina
Temple of time
title theme

now that I think of it, EVERY single song from the OST has a special place in my heart.

Hands down, The Wind Waker. The music is stunning throughout, and each song is a masterpiece in its own right and fits the part of the game it pertains to extraordinarily. Like I said, every song is great, but the stand-outs to me are "Dragon Roost Island" and "Earth God's Lyric."

I like Endless Possibilities from Sonic Unleashed, or Speak with your Heart from Sonic Colours, I also like both portal ending songs.

I didn't read every post but I am suprised that within the many I did read, none mentions City Escape, that's a good one to, but most of the songs from that were good, the only character that didn't have a good theme then is so awesome she didn't need one. Needless to say I also like Zelda games Music, especially song of healing and especially when it is done by wolves.
