I've heard something similar, and for some reason am trying to attribute one sentiment to Maya Angelou. I failed in my google to find out if that was accurate, but I found another by Jack Kerouac: "Cliches are truisms and all truisms are true." Not sure the context.

One of my favorite quotes is from Memoirs of a Geisha, a very quotable book, but the ending is just perfect for it:

"As a young girl I believed my life would never have been a struggle if Mr. Tanaka hadn't torn me away from my tipsy house. But now I know that our world is no more permanent than a wave rising on the ocean.
