I've started listening to the game of thrones books now and I hate it. Or more accurately, I hate the author's use of dramatic irony. Probably one of my least favorite literary devices, it burns me inside, as it's meant to.
What are some of your least favorite literary devices?

As for favorites, I love alliteration and assonance a lot

I was still thinking!

My favorite most likely is personification. I'm not sure if I have a specific least favorite though. I hate any figurative language that is used carelessly and forced for the sake of using it.
Personification for me can be really hit or miss. There's a poem about fog that does it really well and I love it but then sometimes like you say it gets used carelessly and then I think personification hurts more than most other types because the comparison just doesn't make sense

How do you correctly alternate between a character’s name and he/she/her/him/they? That trips me up when I write my RP posts and I feel like it’s bad writing.
