So what if there was a future title with a faction system similar to the one featured in the later Fallout games? Like having something where multiple factions exist in whatever setting a future game takes place in, whether it be Hyrule or someplace else. They'd either be in a state of active war or are in an uneasy peace. Both reasons being that they're all vying for control and dominance over the land.
The gimmick would be that anything Link does would affect his standing, reputation and alignment with said factions as well as impacting the balance of power in the setting the game takes place in. This would also lead to said game having multiple endings just like with the Fallout games of different factions winning and the effects their victory would have across the land. This would also affect the AI of the npcs of said factions. Dictating whether or not they become hostile to the player and there would sometimes be a phenomenon where AI battles would take place between the AI of two or more factions.
Another gimmick I could see this having is the borders of these factions changing and shifting depending on link's actions towards said faction.
For the case of an Adult timeline game, particularly between phantom hourglass and spirit tracks, the AI would be for ships roaming the seas making up the setting. Because of this, naval combat would be another gimmick for such a title as you'd either be battling enemy warships or watching AI ships from two different factions battling each other.
