Do you pay any mind to food expiry dates?

I always have to check ever since I ate a can of 3 year expired soup when I was 6.

If food is even close to going bad I throw it out. mostly because ive had one too many experiences with rotten food (lets just say that when a sack of potatoes turns into a putrid brown liquid, you have a problem)
