Do Nintendo leave their IPs dormant for too long?

Nintendo have a hefty catalogue of IPs and they could make a new game for any of them any time they wanted, the problem is, is that they don't.

Kid Icarus only comes around every 25 years or so.

F-Zero hasn't seen a proper release since the Gamecube (inexplicably missing a 3DS game that could have been called '3DX', come on Nintendo).

Ice Climbers, Earthbound... Hell, even DK had a rough time after DK64 with not having a game worth a damn until Retro got a hold of him.

And speaking of Retro, Metroid keeps disappearing.

So, do Nintendo leave their IPs dormant for too long?

Would you prefer them to spread their attention a little wider with their IPs each generation and bring back some old names?

And thus why I make my blog posts. ;)

Yes. While it's unrealistic to expect a new entry in all of their franchises every few years, it's a shame how easy it is to think of series that haven't got a new game in literally over a decade. F-Zero gang rise up.

it's not just nintendo, other long time companies have IPs that they have just sit there to wither into dust, sega is also one that has a bunch of dormant franchises, though to their credit, they are at least bringing up a few of them like panzer dragoon, streets of rage, and sakura wars, and they brought back monkey ball a bit ago even though it's just.....well, you know

but yeah, nintendo is disgusting at this, they can keep churning out mario or kirby games or whatever where certain other series are just never gonna see the light of day again
