I personally think it would be straying too far from the usual. We look forward to Link being the hero in each game, and it has been that way for all of the Zelda games released by Nintendo. There were games on the CD-i that were released that featured Zelda as a main character, but I don't think that something like that would work too well for a Zelda game. I think they could somewhat try to make it work, but it just wouldn't feel right. It would be kind of odd to have a female lead character, and completely stray from what we are used to and the story of every Zelda game to date. We have the hero in green wielding the Master Sword and slaying evil. I just think that a female character wouldn't be quite right... the games are based around the hero Link.
