Coincidence or Intentional?

I realized that the Super Mario Bros. 3 Ocean world and the Legend of Zelda fairy themes are very similar. Taking into consideration that back then, the Mario and Zelda teams worked pretty closely (they still do, but not as much), do you think that is just a coincidence or is it intentionally done?

I will embed the themes below:

Post your thoughts below.

They would sound exactly the same if in the same format. Great find, PhantomTriforce! This was clearly intentional.

Same goes for Ocarina of Time main theme and Super Maro Bros. 3 flute theme.

Intentional. Both games were created by Nintendo. The Fairy Theme and Main Theme for both games sounds too similar. Maybe it was an Easter Egg?

Same here, I'm sure it was intentional. I remember not too long ago I caught that. And my brother caught the flute and menu theme. Nintendo is so awesome!

They aren't exactly the same, but they're pretty damn close. That's a great find PhantomTriforce!!!

As for it being coincidental or intentional, I say both. I mean, they're similar, but not exactly the same. And considering that Super Mario Bros. 3 came before Ocarina of Time, maybe during production of OoT they looked back on some older games to find musical inspiration. Only to find this song and the Flute Song (which is the same as OoT's Main Theme).

A Link to the Past was the first to have the Fairy Fountain music (although I could of sworn the first game had it too). But I doubt it was a coincidence. They don't have to sound identical for it to be intentional. It's just like all the variations of the Zelda theme. It was intentional but made different for a certain game.

Here's another one I noticed. Listen to the background of the Castle Theme from Yoshi's Island, then listen to the beginning background of Song of Storms.

Definitely intentional, Koji Kondo composed both pieces and Nintendo seems do this kind of thing a lot. It may be a kind of fan service or an Easter Egg for long time fans.
