Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The book felt like a tedious exercise of patience devoid of fun. The movie somehow took that and made it worth investing four hours in.

I don't like the Harry Potter books very much at all. They feel a little bland to me. However, I did enjoy the five movies I made it through; they are miles better than the books, with much better presentation of the characters, wonderful music, and overall far more coherence than the books ever managed to achieve.

I shall now sit back and enjoy the nuclear fallout.

I'm thinking through all the books I've read and which ones also have movies that I've seen. The only one I definitely far enjoy the movie more is Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory compared to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Googling this question came up with a few other examples like The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption, but I have never read the books for those.
