TPHD-Wii U Any way to save the amiibo?

So I did the Cave of Shadows the first two times, didn't get hit once, thought the rest would be just as easy, so I didn't bother saving the amiibo....but now this leaves me without a way to heal. Is there a way to save the amiibo without beating all 40 floors?

I actually struggle using the amiibo to heal, because I got 18 leftover hearts the first time, saved it to the amiibo, then on the second time I didn't need to heal (though I did have fewer leftover hearts), third time I needed to heal, but when I scanned the amiibo it wouldn't heal me, and I'm struggling to understand how I'm supposed to heal...
