I mostly prefer anime. It's difficult for me to find cartoons that I actually enjoy watching; a lot of them have too much humour and they're just a little too silly for me. There are some that I do like, though; the animated Tintin series is great, for example. A little old, but great.

With anime, there's also a lot of silly stuff out there, but it's a bit easier for me to find series that have a quieter or more serious tone overall, like Mushishi and Cowboy Bebop. But, this might partly be because I have friends who like anime and share my tastes, so they can suggest series like that to me.

If i would have lived somewhere else as a child, i'm sure my decision would be bit different. I choose Cartoons mainly because of nostalgia. I grew up to The looney tunes, The Flintstones, the Jetsons, Yogi Bear etc so i have it in my mind that they were the greatest joys of being a child. I have only recently been getting into anime, i'm no Otaku, but i've seen enough to love it.

The only anime I ever really got into was Pokémon, whereas I've watched hundreds of cartoons. Therefore, je pense que j'aime les dessins animés plus.

When I was younger, I watched things like Dragonball Z and Pokémon. Pokémon was just awful, everything in it was rubbish and annoying, but since everyone used to watch it, I kind of had to just to be able to socialise at school.

You high or something boy? Lol

I'm not the slightest fan of anime. I don't exactly know why, I just never found them to be relatable. Not to say that cartoons are super realistic, but they tend to not follow a strict storyline, so they can create a variety of episodes and I can find one relatable. Anime tries to hard to be dark, in some shows, as if to make up for the fact it is an animated show. So much so, that every character is dark and unhappy, but then they have that one pointless humorous character.

Cartoons just are better in my opinion.

I tend to lean towards anime (even though all anime is by default bad). I just never have the chance to watch cartoons.

WAIT

ISN'T ANIME JUST CARTOONS :V

didn't build that
I voted anime because I was thinking of shows. Anime knocks modern cartoons out of the ballpark. Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Trigun--these classics are absolute works of art, and aim far higher than most of the silly shows I've seen in passing on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Lower-tier shows might be Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood, Princess Tutu, etc.

There are some cartoons I love. There are the classics, like Merrie Melodies (timeless!), there were some clever shows on TV when I was growing up (see Animaniacs, Powerpuff Girls, Batman: The Animated Series, and Rocko's Modern Life), and recently we've had Avatar: The Last Airbender and MLP:Friendship is Magic. But as good as these shows are, I can't help but feel there simply aren't as many that reach as high as Cowboy Bebop. Avatar: TLA is one of my all-time favorite shows, but other than that, most cartoons either seem to be based on comic books or a comic book aesthetic or are meant to be funny.

It's just that the experience of watching a good anime is, in general, far more aesthetically pleasing, far more emotional for me, than watching a cartoon. I also think the intrigue in a show like Death Note--which friggin' rivals Breaking Bad--is not something you'd see in a cartoon. Seriously, talk all you want about Batman: The Animated Series, but shows like this knock it out of the ballpark. Only TLA is in the same league.

The mistake I made when voting was forgetting that cartoons also means movies. Huge omission. Studio Ghibli always churns out great stuff, but otherwise, there aren't many anime movies I love. On the other hand, there's Disney. And that's really all you need to say.

Cartoons win when it comes to film, but anime shows are better.

Anime, no questions asked. Granted, there are a great deal of 'cartoons' that I like, but it's mostly old school stuff; I tend to try to avoid as much of the new stuff as I possibly can.

I chose Anime Because I find it more entertaining than Cartoons. I haven't watched a cartoon in ages, Main reason being is because modern cartoons are really awful, particularly ones like SpongeBob SquarePants, I just feel that shows like that are mentally damaging to kids. The Old school cartoons were the best in my opinion. I Always laughed hysterically when watching old school Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry etc.

The old Disney and Looney Tunes cartoons were amazing. And I had a huge list in the western animated TV shows that I love, so there are good amount of cartoons that I enjoy. But most of them were 90's age. I feel like cartoons' quality, in general, has gone down a bit.

But I generally watch a lot more anime than western cartoons these days.

Even though I could sit here all day spouting off familiar titles of nostalgic cartoons, I don't believe they're up to par with anime. Sure, you have a few shows here and there that are pretty decent and memorable, but anime is something that will always be a part of my life. Without it, I would have never found an interest in drawing, and thus would be lacking a large majority of talent in my life. A period of time passed where I didn't bother watching any anime at all, and I didn't miss it too much, but it felt good to pick it back up again. I feel that most cartoons revolve around a similar premise (in one way, shape or form), while anime is unique in its own individual way. Of course I don't speak for everyone when I say this, but anime far surpasses cartoons on any given day, and anyone who says otherwise either a.) hasn't given anime a try, or b.) started off on the wrong foot.

As a kid, I loved watching cartoons. Spongebob and Rugrats were the major two I would watch when I was a kid (and still do while growing up). But lately as the years went by, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon decided to put stupid and unrelated cartoons that I find destroying in the brain to even watch, including the more recent ones of Uncle Grandpa and Sanj and Craig (or however that show is spelled). Nowadays I watch Anime because majority of them actually have a point and a good reason to watch (even though I barely watch animated shows anymore (though I do watch My Little Pony but that's not the point)).

I like both anime and western cartoons. I like one more than the other, but I'll get to that a minute.

I like both for different reasons. I like western cartoons because some of them are really funny and goofy like Johnny Bravo, Spongebob Squarepants, or Ed, Edd, and Eddy.
I like anime for the captivating stories, plot, the backgrounds of the characters, the detailed art style, mesmerizing action scenes, and yeah. I feel that the Japanese are more creative with their cartoons because they make a lot of stuff for mature audiences and cartoons of many different genres instead of just comedy or educational purposes. I feel that, since there is usually more of a plot and the characters have background stories and personalities that I can get much more emotionally attatched to these characters and care about them way more than characters in western cartoons. Characters in western cartoons aren't that complex. I will admit that DBZ is my favorite show and it doesn't contain the most complex characters but they are complex and I got to watch them grow and change into different people. For instance, Vegeta is a Saiyan coming to kill Goku. Goku, after defeating him, let's him flee. They later meet on Namek and he decides to team up with Gohan and the gang. When Vegeta gets defeated by Frieza, Goku just then arrives and then Vegeta cries and tells him about how he was Frieza's slave and he had to do whatever Frieza said or else he'd kill his father but he killed him anyway. You realize Vegeta actually has feelings and isn't as bad as once thought. He then dies. You can't tell me that isn't at least a bit deep.

So I guess you've figured out that I like anime more. Yup.
