Alright everyone. I'm going to try to make a thread about a band that people have heard of and is very important to me. Against Me! is a band from Gainesville FL that has gone through many iterations. Starting as a solo project for Laura Jane Grace (formerly Tom Gabel) in the late 90's, AM! has changed from a anarcho folk punk band to a modern rock band. Every transition slowly upsetting their older fans.

Here is some of the stuff from when they were just a guitar and drum two-piece:
This Is Control
This is one of my personal favorite AM! songs. "Walking Is Still Honest"

After this the band switched to a full band. While still maintaining a folk-punk sound.
"Reinventing Axle Rose"

The content of these songs mostly sang against capitalism and what people would call "selling out". Not long after this though Against Me! signed to Fat Wreck Chords, which is one of the larger punk rock labels. Their sound also changed slightly. Both of these things upset many of their fans, thinking they had sold out. The feelings the band experienced is documented on one of the last releases on an independent label. It also shows the slight change in their sound:

(you will have to skip to 3:00, or you can listen to the whole EP, its great :))

Against Me!'s first release on Fat was called "As The Eternal Cowboy". It is one of my favorite records of all time.

Their second release on Fat was called "Searching for a Former Clarity". This also upset many fans because it marked another radical change in their sound. It is kind of all over the place thematically that posting one song doesn't show off the sound of the record quite well. I recommend checking out the whole thing for yourself.

Don't Lose Touch

This may be the biggest upset to many AM! fans. They signed to Sire records, a major label, and released two records that sound more like modern rock than anything punk. The first record, New Wave, I find half to be enjoyable, the other half garbage. The second record, White Crosses, is complete crap. I do love this song from New Wave though.

Lately Laura has been showcasing some new songs acoustically. They sound ok, but I am worried when they become full band they will be just as bad. Loving this song.

What do you guys think? Fans of this band? What era do you prefer?
