The King left the two friends to their reunion. He went to the end of the room, Zelda at his arm, and stood up in front of his throne. Every eye turned to him and a heavy silence enveloped the room. He stood up and cleared his throat, every pair of eyes following his every movement.

“My friends, the matter at hand is serious." He grimly stated. "You all know the great Sea-Clan of Tooth, don’t you? Of course you do, as it is the most grandiose of the clans ; not to mention the strongest.”

One of the younglings then called out, “And why isn’t their Leader here today then, if they are so great? You said yourself the matter was serious, with respect, my King.”

The King chuckled softly before his face turned grey and strained. “Ah, but think. Why isn’t he here? Why did I call this meeting? Have any of you received any reports from the Tooths lately?”, he stated all this before letting the other clan leaders confirm this report.
Then with a demanding tone Link stated, “The Tooth Clan has not been in contact for months. We need to send someone to find out what has happened.”

Zelda stepped forward. “We have decided to send Juniors on the mission as their entering test.”

Suddenly, the Leader of Rose stepped forward. She gazed up at the King thoughtfully with her deep, ocean blue eyes and she bowed quickly, her ponytail of long straight jet black hair set high on her head swishing around her. She had an exotic face, with kohl-rimmed eyes and dark skin, which was a rarity around these parts. She had fine features, and a long, bare neck. Her dress was quite low-cut and a deep green.

“But surely, my Queen, it will be dangerous! We cannot let go the young ones on that journey. Why not let the more experienced ones go, like us.” She frowned thoughtfully.

The Queen then exclaimed, “Be still, Pandora. You will speak when asked to. Besides you are younger than some of them. Age does not always mean experience."

Pandora’s brows knitted together in frustration but she let none of it enter her voice. “As you wish, my Queen.” Her voice didn’t hold a single hint of the anger which thundered through her face.

“Zelda, my love, she's may be right. It may prove too dangerous for the younger ones. Maybe we could consider..." - Link put in, not wanting to sacrifice new ones full of talent.

Zelda turned on him and stared him down. A few awkward minutes passed. “You might be right, husband. But remember last time we sent all the Leaders.” Link did remember, with a wince, the previous fiasco.

“It will not be the same!” One Leader broke in. “We will be safe!” She had short fair hair hanging down to her shoulders in a shower of curls. Her sky blue eyes that seemed to strip you bare of all your secrets by just looking at you. The girl had round rosebud lips with a small beauty spot next to her mouth. She seemed very skinny and was of medium height, but she would still tower over Irasa easily.

Zelda sighed softly , almost too quiet for the human ear to hear. “Have your way, Lady Rose. You will be put in charge and the whole expedition will be your responsibility. The whole country will be counting on you.” The Leader’s eyes widened. A few surprised mutters could be heard around her. Never had an Arva been put in charge of an expedition! It was always the King, or someone directly under him. Link turned to stare at his wife. She smiled and touched his wrist gently.

“Trust me,” she said softly, and no one could hear but they, “It will all be for the best, you will see.”

The Attack.

"Dear Diary,
I think I'm in love. I saw him today, from afar, and it felt like a thousand lightning bolts had struck my chest. I think he saw me, too. He smiled at me, I think, but I had the sun in my eyes, so I'm not so sure. I hope so. He's the strongest, handsomest, and bravest man I have ever seen. His name is Prince Jon of Hyrule. I wish he would be here with me, and that he would hold me in his arms when I needed him. And that he would tell me how much he loved me and how much he needed me. And that he would--"

"What are you doing, Stella?" Pandora voice put an end to her daydreams. They were sitting next to one of the many campfires, resting after their long march. The company of roughly 500 souls had walked on all day, hardly pausing to eat.

Stella blushed and hid her diary in her skirts. "Nothing, I was just…" The Mage of Rose had long dark blond hair brought up in an untidy bun framing her child-like face. Her rosebud mouth was a light pink. Her hazel eyes were always wide open, giving her an expression of innocent surprise. No-one would ever have guessed that behind her childish features hid the sharpest mind and the greatest magician of all Hyrule.

Pandora put a comforting hand on her arm. "Don't worry about it. It's normal to keep a diary so far from home when you are so young. I did, when I set out to travel for the first time." she paused to playfully whack her Tikala, Gongo, on his leg. "And then this big guy found me. Then I felt like I didn't need one anymore."

Stella turned, patting her own Tikala, a gentle female by the name of Aloe. She froze as she saw someone emerging through the shadows. "Who goes there?" she called out.

"Relax," a voice replied, "it's only me, Ella Rose, from Sand." She stepped into the light. "May I join you? I'm the only girl from Sand. I'm starting to feel alone." She chuckled.

"Sure," assured Pandora, "Make yourself comfortable." She gestured towards the small camp fire and the blankets already disposed around it. Ella smiled, shadows playing across her curly blond hair. She settled down, spreading her blankets on the hard, rocky ground, grimacing. Her Tikala lay next to her and she smiled fondly to him. He stretched his neck and licked her face adoringly, making her chuckle.

All of a sudden, a scream was heard on the other side of the camp. Hordes of hideous beasts invaded, screeching, cackling and growling. The creatures were humanoids, but they had no face whatsoever, their limbs were deformed and twisted and their skin was scaly and gray. They were carrying large battle axes, strangely enough. Usually, they fought with their bare hands. This attack must have been planned, but by who? Stella's mind twirled and twisted. Suddenly, an axe ripped through the starry night, it's blade glinting evilly, thunking down a

Stella was up in an instant, running towards Aloe. The Tikala reared up and beat her wings out of fear. Stella did her best to calm her: mounting on her while she was agitated would be suicide. She turned, she spurred her westwards, she know the girl who stood with her head bowed over a sword, drenched in her own red blood. She ran, and by the dozens beside her they fell, man, woman, or demon. She flew up, surveying the massacre below. She lifted her arms towards the stars and laughed with exhilaration as she absorbed their energy. She tried to scream, but no sound came out. She forced her arms down and full of magical energy she plunged towards the combat.

The first monster didn't realize what was happening as a ray of light passed through his body until too late. His body twisted, almost gracefully, and fell into a pool of green blood spilled by one of his brothers. The combat raged around her. Bars of Magic shot through the sky, lighting up the battle scene, otherwise plunged in darkness, like lightning bolts. A one-eyed dragon swooped down from the skies, spurting green fire from it's hideous nostrils. A Tikala went down, and another, and another, before the Mages finally brought it crashing down onto riders and monsters alike. Thunder was heard in the distance.

Stella looked up towards the cliff, her Magic and energy drained. She saw a man, cloak billowing in the wind, a dragon helmet on his head. At that point one of the creatures hit Aloe on the leg and she toppled forwards, screaming, falling…

She hit the ground violently. She could feel nothing but pain. All went black.

"Uhhh… What happened?" groaned Stella McCloud, finally awaking from unconsciousness. Ella had started to worry she would never wake at all. She knelt next to the young girl, explaining what had happened three days ago.

"You've been out cold for a few days days, we were all starting to worry. There's not many left… Just me, Pandora, Kenji Akira, Alex Dragon of Iron, Irasa of Peaks, Johnny Trail of Iron and Co-Gono Agoro of Snow. That's all." Stella gasped and Ella hung her head, moving her fingers in the Faith Sign, to grant the souls peace as they pass through the Desert of Death. Stella copied her.

"Are they really all… dead?" the young girl asked with a shudder. "And Aloe? Where is she?" Ella smiled appeasingly.

"Aloe's fine. Everyone's Tikalas are. But we have no water or food. We had to leave the area, as new monsters were attracted by the smell. We have started moving, the journey will be long and we WILL complete this mission. If we Arvas cannot defend ourselves, who can?"

"Are you sure that's the right decision? It might not be wise…" Stella hesitated as she saw Ella frowning. She was tired of everyone questioning her choices and her authority.

"Trust me, Stella. Everything will be Ok." she said firmly.

And the small group walked on wearily, not being fit enough to fly, still suffering from their heavy losses.

Ella had volunteered to look after the ones with serious injuries. These were Irasa, Pandora, Alex and Stella. Irasa was suffering from a heavy blow to the head, Pandora from a twisted ankle and shock and Alex had a wide gash across his stomach. Stella had no serous injuries, but it could have been very bad. She had been very lucky. They had all been very lucky.

Suddenly, she felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Johnny Trails, the Iron Mage. "How are they?" he questioned. A tall, handsome Zora with a sinister reputation, Johnny, alias Darkrising, was rumoured to still be the evil Ganondorf's devoted servant. It was common knowledge that he had been at his service in the past. He had been one of the most feared creatures in Hyrule until one day, Saorise, his Tikala, had found him. Then for some reason he changed sides and joined the King. He then began a new life. He changed his name, his looks and personality. Oh, he still seemed mean and unthoughtful, but Ella could see that he was nice inside.

"They're OK. They are going to survive, anyway." she replied.

"Are you sure?" Johnny held her gaze with his hard, dark blue eyes.

"No," she said, "but they have been though lot.” Ella held her chin up high arrogantly. “After all, they are Arvas. They'll survive, I know it."

"Yeah, whatever. As if I cared, anyway. We'd be better off without them. We'd be faster, travel lighter, complete this pointless mission and go home." he turned away. "We'd be better off if you weren't the one in charge."

Ella raised her eyebrows in outrage at his coldness and his insult. She frowned, anger mounting in her: what right had he to question her leadership in this way? None! She was the leader of this mission, he should show her respect! "Maybe we would be better off without you!!!" she shouted and instantly regretted it.

He turned, face pale with anger and eyes tight. "Look, I don't want to fight you right now. But you'll regret this. You'll see. Don't expect to get away with insulting me like this." With these words he turned on his heels and stalked away angrily, his Mage's cloak billowing behind him dramatically. What was wrong with him? Who did he think he was!? Why did he think he was so superior?

Ella was sure she had made an enemy. He certainly had managed to make her furious. Ella snorted and decided to not worry about this any longer, instead concentrate on what they should do now. She had decisions to make.

Co-gono was not surprised to see Ella Rose arrive out of the corner of her eye. She wore a worried expression on her pretty face.

“Ah, Ella. What do you want?” He turned, facing her, and smiled, his huge white teeth standing out against his dark grey skin.

“Will you help me?” the young girl said, in the tones of someone not used to asking for help.

“With what, may I ask?” a twinkle of amusement danced in Co-gono's dark eyes.

Ella glared sharply at him, then craned her neck to look him in the eye. She was dwarfed by the impressively built Goron, even by their standards. He was twice as tall as Ella, and three times as wide. If he wanted, he could've picked her up with one hand. Luckily for everyone around him, he was gentle and rather thought than fought. S he smiled half-heartedly and Co-gono noticed for the first time the deep, dark purple circles under her eyes. She had herself insisted to stay up and look after the wounded every night and had not slept for three days. She opened her mouth angrily but he cut her short with a laugh.

“You go lie down. Get rest. I'll take care of everything.” he had a deep voice that reminded of caves and echoes and stalactites.

Ella's brow furrowed and she seemed to hesitate. “Oh all right, then.” she said at last and yawned. “It would do me good, I think.”

Co-gono watched her walk away and chuckled. Then he looked around. The camp needed arranging. He gave quick, brisk orders, placing the remaining member's tents in a circle, ordering the beasts, the food and the wounded to be moved into the middle, in case of attack. He set lookouts and guards into strategic positions, and finally assigned a nurse to the hurt. He was walking along the aisles, satisfied with himself, when he heard a croak to his left. He looked down and saw the young girl whom his memory, after much work, identified as Stella McCloud, the Mage of Rose. She beckoned him closer and whispered.

“I saw someone on the cliff the night of the attack... I-I think it was was Atsuma Gale. It was his helmet...” she started crying and Co-gono went rigid with fear. He stood, unmoving, for several minutes then, almost automatically, robot-like, he sat down, put his hands over his eyes and rubbed his temples, making a sound like a gigantic boulder crashing down on the ground and then rolling a bit, too. A few people looked around in alarm, then realised there were no mountains around them and went back to their business. Co-gono went inside his tent to think.

Another short, short, short update... :S

Ella awoke the next day, at noon. She looked around sleepily at the camp around her, aware that the tents had shifted into a tight, close position. She seemed to be the centre of the small camp and if she reached over, she could touch the tent next to her! Co-gono would have some explaining to do!

A few moments later, she was marching up to his tent. It was not an impressive march, seeing as she had to take one step and there she was. “Co-gono? What is the meaning of this?” When she saw his downcast and murderous expression, she was silenced.

“Ah, you're awake. Well, if you must know, Atsuma Gale was sighted near our camp, and you know that where Gale goes, so does Strifus Orlock. I didn't have the heart to wake you.” he smiled tiredly, not his usual cheerful smile, rather a bitter, sarcastic one. Ella sat down heavily on the rickety wooden chair Co-gono had pulled out just in time. Atsuma Gale! Strifus Orlock! The most feared beings in Hyrule!

“We have proof Gale was responsible for the monster attack.” Co-gono continued, “And we thought best to turn into a defensive position. Of course, this leaves us weak to a magical attack, but although Gale has been sighted several times, Orlock is nowhere to be seen. We could suppose that he is elsewhere, even though that is very improbable. He is Atsuma's shadow, and Strifus' shadow is Atsuma. They are two pieces of the same person, even though they hate each other. Ganon was smart. They are passionate people, but they have a tendency to hate rather than love.” he sighed, shaking his head sorrowfully. “I knew Strifus when he was a little boy. He had such talent... Everyone liked him. But now... Such a terrible, terrible thing...” his voice drifted away, and there was a silence. Ella shifted uncomfortably in her chair and cleared her throat. Co-gono popped his bubble and jumped back into reality.

Suddenly, someone came running in. It was one of the soldiers from the escort.
“Excuse me, but me and the lads, you see... We thought you should come and see this!”

This story is great, keep it coming Hazel. I enjoyed the battles you described very much, but I did find something that I think you must correct. In the following paragraph you left out something at the very end, something that you oversaw or plainly forgot about.

Btw, I read it at MR, though I'd feedback here as well. Btw, I loved this line:

Ella came rushing out, fearing the worst. Instead, there were two women, standing next to Co-gono's tent. She marched up to them and demanded:
“Who are you? What are you doing here?”

The girls just laughed. They were both in their 20's, or so it seemed. One had long red hair, and creamy skin, whilst the other had short blond hair and porcelain skin. They both had sparkling, joyful green eyes. But Ella could sense something else, too, lurking just behind the field of vision, or in the corner of her eye.

The redhead wore a black knee-high leather boots, a long draped around her neck, and a chain wrapped around her torso. She had a general air of femme fatale about her.
The blond girl wore a traditional swordswoman's leather clothes, with a lot of belts and knives about her.

The redhead stepped forwards. “I'm Din, and this is Hazel.” she glanced at the Tikalas. “You must be Arvas?” We can help you fight.

“I'm sorry, but we may have to fly, and you don't seem to have any horses. You wouldn't be able to keep up.” Co-gono said.

“Oh, I don't think we would have any problem with that.” the blond one, Hazel, spoke up for the first time. She had a strange accent. It sounded... not Hyrulean, but something else. She had a deep voice.

Din laughed. “We are pretty quick,” she cut off Hazel, as if not wanting her to talk. “Give us a chance. We will charge no fee other than food and company.”

“What would you gain?” Ella asked. She was unsure about the pair of them.

Hazel grinned wolfishly. “We're looking for a... friend. He has a boat and often trades with the Sea Arvas. We thought we would join you and try to find him. We have not heard of him for, what, three months now?” Ella seemed to be the only one who had noticed the slight pause, slight hint that the friendship between them was untrue.

“Yes, three months. But we needn't bother them with our stories, isn't that right, Hazel?” Din exclaimed, almost managing to conceal her annoyance.
Hazel didn't reply, much to Ella's surprise. She fell into a sort of stubborn muteness.

“Well, be welcome to join us!” Ella exclaimed. Co-gono threw her a sharp look and pulled her aside.

“Are you sure?” he said in an inaudible whisper. “I don't think we can trust them.” Ella looked at the pair. They were grinning broadly, and somehow Ella knew they had heard everything. A chill passed through her spine.

“We can't.” Ella murmured, earning a wink from Din. “But I'm letting them come anyway. I'll tell you more later.” Hazel threw Ella an annoyed glance.

“Well,” she came back with a bright smile, “any extra help is welcome! You may camp wherever you like. Do you have a tent?”

''No. No, we don't.'' Hazel replied softly. “We prefer sleeping without.” Somehow those last words seemed menacing.

Woot! New characters appearing!!!

Din watched the sleeping form of Hazel toss and turn. She called out softly:
“Can you not sleep, sister?”

Hazel sat up and looked her in the eye. “Why don't you sleep? You don't have to watch me all the time.” Hazel seemed to force a little laugh, but bitterness was present in her tone. Din wilted inside. Poor Hazel felt cornered, and she really did need some sleep... Just a night would be fine... Would it?

“No. You know as well as I that I have to watch you. I'll be fine.” Din said firmly, although she knew it wasn't true. She felt ready to collapse from exhaustion any second.

“You have not slept since five days, at least. What about Atsuma? You can't look like an old hag in front of him! You leave a stunner and come back a hag!” this time Hazel's laugh did not seem forced. Din snorted.

Din was overjoyed that they were finally going down south. She knew Strifus was there, and Atsuma and he were never far apart. They were also going to try find Ark Mantrios, who was somewhere by the sea too. Din didn't trust him, but she knew Hazel, on the contrary, adored him.

“Believe me, no one cares if I look like a hag or not. Especially not him. He does not even know I exist, I bet. He never looks at me.” Din responded dryly. Hazel cackled a laugh.

“You do not know anything! He looks at you, you're just too blind to see! You need to sleep, sister.” she put an arm around Din and hugged her. Din was starting to loose her will power. Her brain said she needed to watch over Hazel, but the rest of her body demanded sleep. All of a sudden, a timid voice sounded out:

“Excuse me? Me and the others, we were wondering... Do you want to join us?” It was a girl in her early teenage years. She must have been only 13 or 14...

Sensing Hazel's reply, Din quickly exclaimed:
“Yes, of course! Thank you very much, it is very kind of you.” The girl smiled uneasily and left.

“Are you mad?” Hazel hissed.

“Remember. We're supposed to be good.” Din murmured and got up. She walked towards the camp fire.
