Do we really need a jump button?

Bed of Chaos in BotW would be quite something.
  2. 5teelPriest

Do we really need a jump button?

Souls games aren't really lauded for their top notch platforming. May be setting the bar a little low on that one.
  3. 5teelPriest

Do we really need a jump button?

While I never minded the autojump of previous games, I think the general gaming environment is such that for a 3rd person adventure game, a jump button is basically standard practice. Is it absolutely necessary? No, but the lack of one would definitely seem out of place for most players. I was...

Aonuma: OoT was restricting, the BotW format will continue

The only thing BotW did that OoT had restrictions on was let you do dungeons in whatever order, solve puzzles in whatever manner, and climb things. You can make a game that follows the general formula established by ALttP and OoT while also making dungeon order malleable. ALBW was a good example...

I think I can fix the timeline so that the new revelations in TotK do not contradict the lore of the past games.

Yea, they really got me good with that opening scene. Then the goat man shows up and goes "It's me. I'm Rauru." and my disappointment was immeasurable and my day ruined. As far as this timeline goes, I like it about as much as I like the Hyrule Historia timeline in general. If we assume the...

Tears of the Kingdom [SPOILERS] Tears of the Kingdom story discussion

Ugh. Even the new champions? Like, key characters? Or are we just talking random NPCs?

Tears of the Kingdom [SPOILERS] Tears of the Kingdom story discussion

Wait, really? Pretty nonsense. Hope Link at least got a decent payout for it.

Tears of the Kingdom [SPOILERS] Tears of the Kingdom story discussion

Is there any kind of return of musical elements? By that I mean is there an instrument we play or something? I'm guessing no, but I'm happy to be surprised, since that's something I really miss.

Do you want TOTK more difficult?

Now that I think on it, I'm really hoping for some doozies as far as puzzles go as well. I didn't get stumped by very many of the puzzles in BotW. Shrines, Beasts, and Koroks. Matter of fact, I think the only game in the series that ever stumped me (in a way I thought was fair, Zelda I and II)...

Do you want TOTK more difficult?

I'd def like it to be more on the difficult side. Though more in the way of attack patterns and not so much the way BotW did it in Master Mode with the increased health pool and CONSTANT HEALTH REGEN. The regen really got on my nerves.

    Final Pre Launch TotK Trailer

I've spent all my time thus far kind of side-eyeing this game, but this trailer has me genuinely interested now. And just in time, since I'm fixin to get a Switch finally.

    Favorite coffee?

Coffee! My favorite right now is Private Selection Kona Blend. Followed by a flavored coffee called Sinful Delight that I get on a website called Coffee Bean Direct. Has chocolate, hazelnut, that kind of thing. Suuuper good. I like medium roasts the best on account their being a nice middle...

Which Book Are You Currently Reading?

Finished "Rhythm of War" a couple days ago, and man, Kaladin reaching the 4th ideal was one of the greatest feelings I've gotten from consuming any form of media, let alone just reading a book. Can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. Gonna take a little break before going onto...

Ocarina of Time Where Did All Those Redeads Come From?

I've heard a theory like this before and really liked it. Not only do you find them in the Earth Temple, but there's a giant statue of one as the main piece of the temple. And I believe the redeads in that game have shiekah tattoos on their bodies. Redeads might even be shiekah volunteers.

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

I agree. There's actually a couple good mods for BotW that allow Beedle to sell weapons in certain locations around the map instead of his normal stuff. Pretty useful.

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

What are your feelings on the cooking in BotW? I criticize that game for a lot of things, but I thought the food and arrows were a decent enough rupee sink in that game. I still wish some of the quests gave you something other than rupees, but at the very least there was a place for them to go.
  20. 5teelPriest

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

You're clearly asking too much. You will collect X number of Y item and you will receive Z amount of rupees. No, you may not spend the rupees.

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

BotW missed the opportunity to have the greatest, most far reaching trading sequence of all. A sad day indeed.

What Game(s) Are You Playing at the Moment?

Been playing a lot of Valheim, Sons of the Forest, Tabletop Simulator, and Kena Bridge of Spirits lately. Tabletop Sim is one of the best things ever. And I got Kena as soon as I found out it was by the same studio that did the Terrible Fate video. Little late to the party I think, but it's...

    Favorite minigames/side modes

I and a friend of mine had a LOT of fun with the co-op on Splinter Cell Blacklist. Especially the wave fights. I also like the flying minigame in Super Monkey Ball.

Do Certain Sounds Help You Sleep?

Man, I think in my mind I was counting a fan as silence. I guess I've never even experienced trying to sleep in complete silence. And now I'm suspicious that @Mikey the Moblin may sleep in one of those sensory deprivation chambers.

Which Book Are You Currently Reading?

I never got super far into the old EU, but I did read the Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss and really liked those. Death Troopers was also interesting.

Do Certain Sounds Help You Sleep?

Haha, so the exact opposite of me, then. I used to pass out in the engine room on the ship. Fluorescent lighting and machine roaring all the while. Though I suppose the sleep deprivation at the time helped that along. Now, it's kind of a superpower.

Do Certain Sounds Help You Sleep?

When I was a kid, we moved around a lot. Spent a lot of time in roadside motels. So I find the sound of cars passing by outside helps me sleep. My bedroom window faces the road and I keep it open for this reason. Other than that, sometimes I'll put on a spooky podcast or some kind of...

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

Man, WW is another of my favorites, but the fact that it keeps you on a leash until I think Forest Haven has always bugged me. Didn't know there was a specific order you had to do the Wind and Earth Temples. Or maybe I did and just forgot. Yea, I don't know if they'll return to older design...

Which Book Are You Currently Reading?

I have had this exact thought many many times. The very first time, he was sitting in the rain thinking "Why did everything have to be so terrible? It didn't make any sense." It physically pained me, haha.

Which Book Are You Currently Reading?

Currently "reading" Rhythm of War by BrandoSando. Decided a while back to give the Cosmere a try and have been listening to them on Audible in an order I found online. Loving the whole collection so far, but Stormlight Archives is really hitting me different due to Kaladin's experiences and...

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

Skyrim is a great example. Though I'd say BotW has some story-locking and difficulty barriers just like Skyrim has, the way it's pulled off is not as graceful. Not to mention Skyrim has vastly more variety in things like enemy type and loot than anything you'll find in BotW. I agree that the...
  35. 5teelPriest

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

BotW has rules, though. They're just more physics-based. And it encourages players to use and abuse those rules to their advantage for better or worse. Locking a path behind possessing a specific item isn't a matter of rules. It's linearity. In a non-linear game, that path will not be locked...

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

A half hour to 2 hour long dungeon sounds awesome. And yea, I don't think having the ability to skip half the content of a dungeon should be considered a strict positive for a game. It's something I've become pretty baffled by with the relatively recent hate towards "linearity" in games...
  37. 5teelPriest

Do you think we'll see the pre-BOTW style again?

I do think when most people are criticizing the dungeons in BotW for not being "proper", they're referring to the length and theme. The puzzles were great, combat was okay, but there's only like 5 puzzles and 10 enemies per beast and they're stuffed into an environment that looks like every...

Nintendo releases 10 minute TotK gameplay video

I didn't think anything was super mind-blowing, but overall I liked what I saw. I've always been hesitant of what was always gonna be a reuse of assets and music. However, my favorite Zelda happens to be Majora's Mask. So I'm still hopeful. The only thing is, MM had a completely new map, while...

What is your unpopular Zelda opinion?

Well, I mean, he did more than just comedy. Good Will Hunting, Father of the Year, parts of Good Morning Vietnam. I wouldn't even consider Jumanji incredibly comedic. Though, I will admit I'm drawing a blank on whether or not he ever did any villain roles.
  40. 5teelPriest

What is your unpopular Zelda opinion?

Ah, the epitome of enlightenment. It's a shame Robbie Williams passed. If I recall correctly, he had offered to voice Ganondorf if the need arose. I think he'd have done a bang up job.
  41. 5teelPriest

What is your unpopular Zelda opinion?

Good points. I hadn't thought about the side effect of not being able to rename Link. My career as m'dude would be over lol. I also hadn't thought about Ganondorf actually speaking. I'd like to think it'd be possible to get a great voice actor who'd nail it. But it would, indeed, be a very...
  42. 5teelPriest

What is your unpopular Zelda opinion?

I wouldn't mind having voice acting for everyone but Link going forward. But I agree that it wasn't done very well in the English version of BotW. If they're gonna do it, they need to do it right.

    Elden Ring

I recently fought and beat what's got to be my favorite boss in the game so far. Ancestor Spirit. Not a difficult fight by any means, but just super cool. And the lead up area is fantastic.

    The Souls-like Genre

All those things are in a pokemon game? Man, it's been a long time since I've played any pokemon I guess. I'm getting to old for this.
  45. 5teelPriest

    The Souls-like Genre

Gotcha. It's my favorite, too. Though admittedly, that might only be because I play on PC and have therefore never played Bloodborne. I have a soft spot for horror. Especially of the vaguely Lovecraftian variety. Also, Sekiro was the only one I got good enough at to consider speedrunning. I...

    The Souls-like Genre

Might give it a shot once I'm done with Elden Ring. Though that might be a while. I just recently got my invisible enemies bug under control and cleared Stormveil Castle. I'm a bit behind. I see what you mean. Would you consider Sekiro a soulslike despite it being more of an action game then...

    The Souls-like Genre

I agree that there's a ton of similarities between the two. I wouldn't consider metroidvania to be open world, though. I've never looked at Ashen. I'll have to lay some eyes on it.
  48. 5teelPriest

    The Souls-like Genre

An interconnected, dungeon-like world has been an element present in all the souls games, as well as Bloodborne and Sekiro. Even in similar games like Code Vein and Darksiders 3. It's not a stretch to say that it's also something that defines a "souls-like". However, if we say that, it basically...
