Well, I still believe it can happen. Link was not supposed to die (even if you can die in the game). Link dying is not "canon" to Ocarina of Time's purpose story-wise even though it can happen. That's just losing the game. Also realize Nintendo can do whatever they want. In the ending cutscene...
It's a hypothetical idea. It's possible someone could play Ocarina of Time without dying, which shows that Link never died ruling out the Downfall possibility. The main point of the game is to not allow the Downfall anyway, you're supposed to be a victorious hero. Link isn't supposed to die...
