I just beat level one, and for some reason my sword isn't at full power (like, it wont shoot out?) and I got the upgrade before entering it. I noticed it wasn't when I went to kill aquamentus. Did I do something wrong? Help!

I've been playing around on it and I've found a few things.. but I've noticed there's not so much of a guide like on most of the more modern ones. edit; by guide I mean someone like Navi or Midna. Did you use a walkthrough or anything to help? Because some of these places are just so random...
