Yes, I BEAT the temples in a different order. It doesn't do anything special, the only downfall is that sheik is still guarding the master sword until you beat the forest.

All of the sages in OOT stay the sages until they decide not to be. Whether or not these are present in every game I believe that there will always be 7 original sages. They each control something and keep things normal.

This is a very nice speculation but I find it to be incorrect. I believe that it calls them legends because it was such an amazing adventure that they will becaome legends, or it is like a book telling of how each decendant created legends by saving the country he lived in.
