I found the a bit difficult in single player. Ended up using bombs on them for the most part. I thought it was fun, but most of it was too easy. I really enjoyed the at the end though!
Thing is I actually completed a bunch of challenges in multi first so I didn't have to really worry about going back to grind for items by the time I did em in singleplayer. x.x

I feel like it will be ok, because players really aren't gonna need much more than 1 of a rare item. Plus maybe some players will be benevolent with it and show new players where the good treasure is? Maybe I'm being too optimistic :P
