Never mind. I just figured it out. I switched from fire arrows to regular arrows and then I was able to see it with the lens of truth. Apparently the game doesn't want you to use 2 things that use magic power at once.

I'm going to try a minimalist run where I don't buy anything and only rent what's essential.

An ice theme and a proper water dungeon. The Ancient Cistern didn't feel much like a water dungeon even though it was a good dungeon. It had water in it but the puzzles themselves didn't really involve manipulation of water and the boss fight didn't take place in water.

I was aware of the glitch but I didn't try it out. Skipping the boss feels like cheating to me.

I bought them all. I want to get everything and also get the upgrades which are only possible if you buy the items.
