Well, Pokemon being able to mate by definition makes them a single species, so it's not that hard to imagine. The only strange part is the fact that the baby is purely one or the other. You could rationalize that as just being a gameplay thing, while in reality that's how new types of Pokemon are made. Or you could say that there's something weird to their biology that only selects the entirety of the genes from one or the other, not both. Pokemon are constantly stated to not be fully understood by the in-world scientists, and this is a world where normal animals exist too, so I guess that works.

Yes, I am fully aware of Sawk and other all-male or all-female Pokemon. As I said, Pokemon are a single species. A species is defined basically as a grouping of creatures who can produce fertile offspring together, which is true of Pokemon as shown here. Sawk can breed with other Pokemon as long as it's not the same gender (therefore not other Sawk), so they can still breed.

Ah, nice to see someone else who avoids ROMs. You should still find a way to play Parasite Eve though. Maybe get a cheap used PS1 or something.
