Bethesda is far from the only company that has issues with it, they're just the most notorious. I've noticed the more heavily reliant upon scripting a game is, the more likely autosave is going to cause problems. And Bethesda games are the kings of scripting.

The best argument against both, and autosaves in general, is Bethesda's constant problem with glitchy autosaves.

A soft reboot, like this, is often meant to be effectively a reset of the universe without necessarily negating everything that came before. By making the three timelines part of mythology rather than history, this is accomplished. In effect, it makes BotW the first "real" game in the setting...

That's why some of us are beginning to view BotW as a soft reboot of the series.

The problem is that BotW references all three timelines at various points. As though the events from those timelines are well-known to Hylians. But it also openly treats them as myths.
