    you know what it was? I was using the sword to strike. I used the slingshot. voila. I feel like a silly monkey. and thank you for your help!

    I see below that another person is having/had trouble with the same kind of combo set of strikes in the sand ship (which I haven't gotten to). I have tried all combinations of strikes on this gemstone door....the sequence is *spoiler* top, bottom, left right *spoiler* and I CANNOT get this door...
