Honestly I would have rather had another pirate style of gameplay. I love the open sea! I don't think Spirit Tracks was a bad game but to me I felt trapped with little options of navigation. "It's a pirates life for me"!
I am going for the Switch. I feel they will overlook the perks of the WiiU excluding the multi screen perk. ( Correct me if I'm wrong). I also think supporting the Switch will be better in the long run. Improved graphics ECT is worth it.

I am on the same level as you with the controller. My concern is the click. It's the shoulder buttons. They click.. there is no pressure sensitivity to it. Driving game don't do well with that style of controller.
Car problems, money, and not wanting to go to work! If I over look those first three problem obtaing my new backpack, game , and Switch are on my mind.

There is too many games to count that should be added on the Switch. Fallout is the first game that comes to mind. Another is CoD and Battlefield. Some googling first person shooters would benifet Nintendo. I am almost forgot Monster Hunter!! I was highly disappoint when Wii U lost that title...
