Fan Theory: Cuccos Have Immortality
Posted on July 22 2015 by Legacy Staff
Youtube user Dr. Willy has an earth-shattering theory that will rattle our community to its core, changing how we view the Zelda series as we know it: cuccos are the most powerful beings in the Zeldaverse due to their gift of immortality.
Okay, maybe that theory isn’t so earth-shattering, but it’s got a ring of truth to it, as absurd as that sounds. Although cuccos resemble harmless chickens, lurking under that unassuming avian facade is an unquenchable thirst for retribution. Mistreat one cucco long enough, and it will call an army of birds to attack. Nothing, not even the mighty Master Sword, can harm, kill, or deter a swarm of vengeful cuccos. Your only escape is flight…or death.
Dr. Willy’s jocular speculations remind me of my own misadventures with cuccos. Once, while playing Ocarina of Time, I leapt into the well in Kakariko Village to escape an angry horde of them, only to encounter an endless stream dive bombing the well where the ladder to the surface was, one after another, knocking me back down if I tried to get out. I was trapped. My only means of escape were an untimely demise or the reset button. It was an oddly terrifying experience and arguably speaks to the theory Dr. Willy jokingly puts forward.
What do you think of Dr. Willy’s theory? Have you had any skirmishes with Link’s fowl feathered friends? Let us know!
