Ocarina of Time’s title theme has a tranquil quality that provides players with respite before they dive into Link’s adventure. The music is set against a video of the Hero of Time riding Epona as dawn breaks across Hyrule Field. It’s a chance to take a moment to gather thoughts and become enveloped in the game’s world before starting your save and continuing your journey. That little bit of relaxing and centering can help you make the most of your play session.

Today we’re showcasing a short acoustic guitar cover of the game’s title theme. Shinji_Gtbirbuma210, also known simply as Shinji, shared the piece on YouTube earlier this month. The video begins with the familiar footage of Link and Epona galloping at dawn. This quickly fades as Shinji’s guitar begins, clean-toned and minimal.

As the piece continues, we discover that the keyboard is also being played by Shinji. The cover is peaceful with a somber feeling to it, a component I always found in the Ocarina of Time original. I really think the musician captured what makes this piece of music so special in its game — the feeling of rest while understanding that the quest’s finale might not return the world to exactly what it was.

Shinji’s active on both Instagram and X, so be sure to keep an eye on those platforms if you like this cover. You can also keep up with the musician on YouTube.
