thelegendofzeldafs1_2.jpgA Portugese site named MyGames recently got an interview with Eiji Aounuma, where they milked him dry of info related to the next 3DS Zelda game, as well as the much anticipated Majora’s Mask 3D remake. What he had to say was… surprisingly non-vague really. Depending whether or not you ever considered marrying your Majora’s Mask cartridge, we might have good or bad news… If you enjoy debating the Zelda timeline to no end whatsoever, then we just have bad news, sorry. Or well… no news might also be appropriate. Insignificant news? Does it matter? Read it anyway!

The important pieces of information are essentially these:

“We are already preparing a new game of the series for the Nintendo 3DS, which will not be a direct sequel for the DS Zelda games, but will make use of much of what was done in the previous handheld.”

Regarding Majora’s Mask 3D:

“I can assure you that I’ve talked with Miyamoto about this. But we recently released Ocarina of Time 3D, a remake. We’re seriously considering a new version of Majora’s, but it didn’t seem right to release two remakes in sequence. For that reason, the next 3DS Zelda will be an original game.”

Ajonuma also mentions that “SS is before OoT, claiming them both to be one of the first stories”, as well as that “the Links in Four Swords merge after the game, so the four Links have no bearing on the timeline”.

So there you have it folks. It’ll at the very least be another 3-4 years before we see a Majora’s Mask remake for the 3DS, if not more. The good news however is that it’s most likely happening. Patience is the key. The new 3DS Zelda info however also came as a bit of a surprise – specifically the “we are already preparing a new game” part. Color me intrigued for E3 2012 folks (Even though we won’t see anything before E3 2013 most likely, but one can only hope).
