Link’s Awakening, though given new life and introduced to new players with the 2019 remake, has been a beautiful game since 1993. Link washes up on the shores on Koholint Island and meets a colorful cast of characters before realizing that he has been in the dream of the Wind Fish the entire time. Eventually, Link rids Koholint of all the nightmares and wakes the Wind Fish, yet all the friends he made along the way fade out of existence as a result. It is a tragic yet bittersweet tale with emotions reflected in the main song, titled “Ballad of the Wind Fish”.
A recent cover of the song pays tribute to the story of Link’s Awakening beautifully, melding the talents of various musical artists. The featured vocalist, Tiggs, has a voice reminiscent of the idyllic vocals of Marin in the game, yet Tiggs adds their own personal style and natural otherworldliness. The violinist, whose album the song is from, is String Player Gamer.
The album is entitled Acoustica: The Legend of Zelda and is an all-acoustic tribute to the music in the Zelda series. You can access the album on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music. You can also sign up for release updates here and be sure to catch String Player Gamer live on Twitch here.
