“Did You Get All That?” Weekly News Recap
Posted on May 24 2015 by Kira Koneko
Welcome back and thank you for joining me on our second installment of our Weekly News Recap where I, Kaepora Gaebora take you through all the news and most talked about articles of the last week. For those of you that missed our first adventure please check it out here. Now before we begin our journey back in time, let me remind you that we will be reviewing not only any Zelda news that might have happened in the previous week but also the things that you were most passionate about. So please remember to be good little boys and girls so that I may share your wise words from the comments each week. Now that we are all caught up with what our journey will consist of, lets get started. No more dallying, so I must ask… “Did you get all that?”
If your answer is yes, join me past the break.
Follow me Kaepora, as we begin our trip back in time…
Our first stop on our journey takes us to the first Gossip Stone last week where Jon posed the question on; Could we see a customizable 2D Zelda Creator? Jon shared some thoughts and concerns about this idea and used the upcoming title Mario Maker as a solid point of reference for this debate. You, the readers even remembered some of the history of Zelda and where the game initially began, and many of you were very enthusiastic about the idea.
ShadowReaperX shared some of their thoughts:
“Or, y’know, just have a dungeon editor like they wanted to do with the original Zelda in the first place instead of prompting people to make an entire game; less probability of tons of half-baked ideas, less imposing on new creators, and still capable of being creative, especially if they’d add sequential dungeons, meaning finish one and it leads to another, and you keep all your items, thus allowing for the standard, tried-and-true progression system, and if they added more modern mechanics/items than were available in the original, it could easily be good times all around. Who knows? Maybe they’ll reveal Zelda Maker to fill in for Zelda U’s absence at E3, maybe they’ll replace it with Metroid, or both. I want Metroid, though. It’s been five years…”

Our next stop in time takes us to the announcement that Iwata will not be attending E3 this year, and at this time it does not seem to be health related like was the case last year. For Zelda fans, we do have some good news though, Miyamoto will definitely be in attendance this year and will hopefully give us a little something Zelda related, and that seemed to be the biggest thing all of you were hoping for as well!

This week seemed to be the week for Majora’s Mask speedruns, not only did we see the World Record for Any% Speedrun broken for Majora’s Mask 3D not once but twice in one day, we also saw the original Majoras’ Mask Any% Speedrun have a new First Place holder. There seems to be a huge divide in the Zelda community as to whether or not the Any% Speedruns are a good or bad thing. Some of you felt very strongly that using glitches and/or cheats was not a true way to beat the game, and some of you felt that there is a place for all types of Speedruns, cheats or not.
Christburner had this to say:
“these speed runs aren’t about “experiencing the game” they’re about achieving a new goal. to imply that these players who are breaking any% runs, aren’t enjoying the game… well… you may be right, but its only because they’ve already done that. they’ve experienced these games deeper than anyone else, which is why they able to exploit these otherwise unknown glitches and shortcuts, now they’re trying to find something else to do. I’m sure when they aren’t trying to set world records they’re hangin out playing their favorite games, enjoying them at your required slow and all enveloping pace.”

This week our authors seemed to have inspired much discussion with their Gossip Stones, as our next stop takes us to another Gossip Stone from this week. This time Liam asked the question; Should Animal Companions return in new Zelda games? Liam reviewed some of the fantastic companions we saw in both Oracle games and many of you had some strong opinions as to the awesomeness of those creatures. Many of you also seemed to feel very strongly about Epona and there was one theme within most of the comments. We need to see a Pegasus introduced in one of the next Zelda games. Whether it was Epona turning into a Pegasus or a new loyal steed the thought was the same. I for one would love the idea of a Pegasus!

Our second to last stop back in time takes us to a pretty cool scholarship being offered by the Hidden Triforce. The scholarship is open to all U.S citizens, one winner will earn $500 toward school costs. Entrants for the scholarship must write a 500-2000 word essay and the deadline is December 15,2015. The winner will be announced in January 2016. There is plenty of time to get your submission in but I would also imagine there will be many of you who will be entering.
For the full details about the scholarship, you can take a look at the article here.
The final stop on our adventure takes us to the latest addition at ZD, a series called Women of Legend. In this series we will be taking a look at all of the women throughout the Zelda franchise that have shown their courage, dedication, and love through the many deeds and sacrifices they have done. The first in the series focuses on Ilia, where Kassye takes us through her life in Twighlight Princess. Kassye even shares some of her own theories as to Ilia and the challenges she has faced in her life. This will be a recurring series we hope you will all enjoy.

I Kaepora, thank you for joining me this week on our journey back in time and I will be back again next Sunday to guide you through all of the adventures yet to come. But before I go I must ask…
Did You Get All That?
