Daily Debate: Would a Call of Duty Crossover Work?
Posted on March 09 2015 by Darrin W. Harr
The Zelda series’ most successful crossover game, Hyrule Warriors, has gained over one million sales worldwide. The crossover was met with hostility from many Zelda fans at first, but Hyrule Warriors still managed to become Koei Tecmo’s most successful game.
We know Nintendo plans to start the development of more Wii U crossover games this year, so why not use the same formula that worked last year? The Zelda series + other successful franchise = big bucks! If Nintendo does choose to use The Legend of Zelda for more crossovers, what should it cross over with?
One of the most popular games today, Call of Duty, might be a good choice. Some fans want a Zelda game set in a future era, or even in the present. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see Link wielding a sniper rifle, 360 no-scoping bokoblins and tossing grenades at Ganon? One thing is for sure: it would bring a lot of attention to Nintendo.
On the other hand, many fans may not want a first-person shooter Zelda title. They stay away from games like Call of Duty and Battlefield for a reason. The game may not sell as much, and Nintendo would lose money.
