Daily Debate: Will Tears of the Kingdom Be the Last Battle Between Link and Ganondorf?

Breath of the Wild has defined a whole new generation of Zelda fans. From the post-apocalyptic setting, to the open-world gameplay, so many new feats have been achieved by this era-defining game. However, as we look at the much-anticipated sequel, I can’t help but wonder if Tears of the Kingdom will be the end of the curse Demise set on the Hero of the Sky and the first incarnation of Princess Zelda thousands of years before in Skyward Sword.
Ganondorf has already appeared in multiple timelines, transformed into Ganon, and been defeated so many times that he isn’t even a real being anymore. By the time we set foot on Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule, he’s a whole different entity—a “Calamity”—a force of nature.
Though it appears Ganondorf’s real, undead body was hiding under Hyrule for who knows how long, only to be discovered by Link and Zelda in the events of the sequel. What does this mean for our favorite hero and princess? Will this game include a final battle among the trinity of characters who have been trapped for centuries in a never-ending cycle of reincarnation and good versus evil? So many signs are pointing to yes for me. Although I surely hope not because the constant rebirth and rematches between Link and Ganon are both devastating, epic, and so iconic.
In fact, my favorite Zelda games always have to do with the trifecta of Ganondorf, Link, and Zelda, so I can’t wait for Tears of the Kingdom, obviously. But I can’t help but wonder if this is a sort of conclusion for one of our favorite villains.
Only time will tell.
What are your thoughts on Tears of the Kingdom being the last battle between Link and Ganondorf? Let me know in the comments!
