The Zelda series is full of vibrant starting areas that make you feel right at home. From the lush Kokiri Forest in Ocarina of Time to the majestic islands of Skyloft in Skyward Sword, there are plenty of places I would pack my bags for and visit in a heartbeat.

There are, however, a few in-game starter locales that don’t quite make my bucket list. Hyrule in A Link Between Worlds/A Link to the Past, for instance, doesn’t quite hit the mark, unless you want to hang out in Link’s one-room house for a week. There’s also not a lot to see in Aboda Village from Spirit Tracks; there’s only a few houses, not much of a village. Zelda I and Zelda II also offer very little in terms of starting areas, because you pretty much plunge straight into the gameplay. The Oracle of Ages/Seasons starter areas aren’t too bad, if you’re the outdoorsy type. And Phantom Hourglass starts out on an island, albeit, a pretty plain one.

The Picori Festival from The Minish Cap is another story. A colorful town square with lots to see? Sign me up! Outset Island from The Wind Waker is an immediate must if you enjoy beach vacations, and Koholint from Link’s Awakening would be an island dream (literally!). Ordon Village from Twilight Princess makes the perfect relaxing retreat, complete with fresh food from local markets and fishing, if that’s your thing. Clock Town’s “Carnival of Time” from Majora’s Mask seems like it would be a pretty neat addition to the itinerary, as long as you don’t visit when the world is about to end. And I think Kokiri Forest from Ocarina of Time and the Great Plateau from Breath of the Wild would both make great campgrounds.

My personal top pick for a vacation place though has to be Skyloft from Skyward Sword. You can’t beat a floating island (unless you have a fear of heights). The cozy village has plenty to offer, and tourist attractions such as the Lumpy Pumpkin are only a quick flight away.
