There is a certain coziness to Zelda games that prompts me to enjoy them especially when it is cold outside. And when the general busyness of life temporarily subsides in December, I find myself with a little more time to play video games. As a result of this, I have many fond memories of playing Zelda titles during the holiday season. This year, I’ll finally have time to finish up Echoes of Wisdom, which is actually perfect because I’m currently progressing through the snowy Hebra mountain region. If playing Zelda games around this time is indeed a common experience among fans of the series, which ones do you end up playing during the holidays?

I have a very distinct memory of playing Twilight Princess (my very first Zelda game!) on Christmas. Despite being known as one of the tonally darker titles in the series, I felt very snug while playing it. This is funny because I was in the Goron Mines at that point, which is arguably the least Christmassy area in the game. But I had a good time. I also ended up playing Skyward Sword and The Wind Waker on subsequent Christmases with similar cozy results. Even when I don’t play Zelda, I have somehow managed to find a Zelda-like to play during the season. Last year I played Tunic, which is very open about being inspired by the Zelda series.

While I’ve never specifically planned to play these games at this time of the year, there’s a little link between Zelda and the holiday season for me because it’s when I have the most free time to enjoy them.

Are there Zelda games you often find yourself playing around the holidays? Are there any titles you specifically like to replay in winter for the cozy vibes? Let us know in the comments below!
