Daily Debate: Which Zelda Dungeon Originally Captured Your Imagination?
Posted on June 12 2020 by Kristen G. Rosario
As I’m writing this, we here at Zelda Dungeon are counting down the top 50 greatest dungeons from the Zelda series. It’s amazing how, for close to 35 years, the franchise has provided us with all manner of dungeons. There have been big dungeons, small dungeons, frustrating dungeons, puzzle-fueled dungeons, combat-filled dungeons, and even a color dungeon or two.
Since the very firstĀ Zelda title, every dungeon you have entered has always done its best to make you feel and imagine the challenges Link faces. Think about it, what were tiny 8-bit monsters on the television screen were actually monstrous dragons and beasts to our hero. What looked like a simple rectangular room was actually part of an eerie labyrinth filled with all manner of creatures.
Nowadays, players can more easily imagine themselves in Link’s boots with the visual advancements provided in current Zelda games. With better visuals, added detail, and even improved sound design, modern dungeons can feel like real places that the player can actually imagine walking through.
What I want to know from you folks is: what dungeon in the series originally captured your imagination? Which one made you initially feel like you were really on this epic quest to save the day? Which one most helped you envision yourself in the role of the hero? Let us know all of your thoughts in the comments below!
