Daily Debate: Which Echo Are You Most Looking Forward to Using in Echoes of Wisdom?
Posted on August 25 2024 by Josh Wittmershaus
One of the first of many big reveals about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the ability to create duplicates of objects and enemies called “Echoes” to use in your environment, whether that’s battling other enemies, solving puzzles, or simply traversing Hyrule. While we know of at least 20 Echoes that will be available to us, the total number is still a mystery.
I think it’s safe to say, though, that not all Echoes will be created equal, and I’m excited to utilize some more than others. The possibilities of what lies before us has me wondering about what Echoes will rise above the rest as my go-to solution to an open-ended problem in the game. Here are the three Echoes I can’t wait to test the limits of:
- ReDead: Seeing the impact this ReDead had on a group of Moblins in the trailer shocked me, as I found it to be very effective in providing Zelda with time to move around and take care of things without fear of being attacked. I wonder if the ReDead will have a varied scare on different enemies, or if it can be used against other ReDeads. I’m just so stoked to have them back in a game!
- Bird: It seems pretty clear right now that use of an Echo will “time out” after a period of time, so I’m interested to see how far these birds can take us. Also, it doesn’t seem like they will let us fly upwards, only across, with maybe a slow descend taking place. Use of birds in Echoes of Wisdom speedruns seems like a given, so I’m excited to see how this Echo gets used to the player’s advantage!
- Trampoline: This also ties into my thoughts on using birds as an Echo, and leads me to wonder if you can cast a bird Echo after jumping to the highest height on a trampoline? If the answer to this is yes, I really wonder what shortcuts one will be able to create or exploit with this 1-2 punch of Echoes. Bonus question: Will Zelda be able to do trampoline flips? Just in time to start prepping for the 2028 Olympics, I hope!
While I only listed three Echoes I’m excited for, the reality is that each one showcased so far has unique and sometimes surprising mechanics that will make this game fun and personable. What do you think? What Echoes are you looking forward to using most in Echoes of Wisdom? Cast your thoughts in the comments below!
