Daily Debate: Which Companion Did You Upgrade First with the Sage’s Will?

One of the more unusual items players can hunt for in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the Sage’s Will. These mythical orbs contain an essence that deepens Link’s bond with his allies. As the official Nintendo guide from Piggyback explains, “An ally upgraded in this manner will deal a little more damage during battles and have slightly shorter cooldowns between uses of their signature ability.” There are 20 Sage’s Wills for Link to discover, and all of them are in the Sky Islands. An ally may only be upgraded once, and the effect is permanent, transforming their Vow into a Solemn Vow.
So, the question for today is, Which Sage did you first apply the upgrade to? For me, the answer was clear; Tulin is by far the most helpful Sage, both in combat and in exploration. His Power of Wind is invaluable when traversing the massive world inĀ Tears of the Kingdom, particularly in unforgiving areas such as the Depths or the Sky Islands, where one mistake can mean a frustrating fall and starting the exploration process from the beginning.
Tulin’s combat ability is also exceptionally helpful. While other sages rely on walkable terrain and physical combat, Tulin can snipe enemies with his bow from the air. Upgrading this to a more powerful attack is an easy choice. (I will say I turn off his ability when exploring parts of Death Mountain and I’m looking for Rock Octoroks to fix my weapons; Tulin can’t resist picking them off before I get there!)
While I can see an argument for upgrading Riju or even Yunobo first, ultimately my pick is Tulin. Tell us what you think! Which Sage did you upgrade first with the Sage’s Will? Share your reactions in the comments below!
