Daily Debate: What Is Your Unluckiest Zelda Gaming Moment?
Posted on March 17 2025 by Heather Beard

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to all who celebrate! Many look at Saint Patrick’s Day as a day for luck and wearing green among other things, but today I want to look at those unlucky situations. We’ve all likely had Zelda gaming moments where we’ve gotten incredibly lucky and succeeded in finishing a boss with half a heart or even being able to cheese our way through a challenging puzzle; but what about the unlucky times though; those truly tragic gaming moments where you ask yourself, “why me?”
My unluckiest Zelda moment happened a few years back while finishing my Master Mode run of Breath of the Wild. Up until the Dark Beast Ganon fight I had had zero issues in my Master Mode play through, everything had gone great! Breath of the Wild’s final boss battle is a cake walk in my opinion, and I could wish that Dark Beast Ganon were more of a challenge. My most tragic moment was one of those “you get what you wish for” moments, because I got my wish of Dark Beast Ganon being more of a challenge.
As soon as you’re released to start riding horseback to shoot at the lit up spots on Ganon I lost my horse tragically to one of Dark Beast Ganon’s feet. I somehow managed to fall off without being hit and my horse ran away and got squished. I did not think it was possible to have your horse die in that boss fight, but apparently you can. It was one of the weirdest flukes that I ever had while playing Breath of the Wild. I also was not about to start over because it was the end of Master Mode for me, I was going to finish it one way or another, and preferably without seeing a “Game Over” screen. Having to run on foot to fight Dark Beast Ganon is probably one of the unluckiest gameplay moments that I have had in any game across any series that I’ve played. The Master Mode fight was not hard per se, but it turned my cake walk fight into a long drawn out ordeal that would not end quick enough. I was able to use the varying updrafts to hit my marks, but Ganon healing throughout made for a tough time on foot. I don’t recommend your horse being squished. I ultimately succeeded and it made for a fun gaming memory, despite it being a bit tragic.
What about you though? What moment while playing a Zelda game would you consider your unluckiest? Let us know your tragic mishaps in the comments below.
