The Zelda series is one of the most well-known fantasy properties in video games, but there are a vast amount of fantasy stories released each year. Whether it is film, television series, books, or video games, fantasy is a huge genre that grows more diverse every year. Each generation of fantasy fans has their own set of beloved fantasy texts, and it is so interesting to look at how the genre has changed over time. The Zelda series has influenced other fantasy games including legendary titles like Shadow of the Colossus and Elden Ring. Additionally, with the Zelda film only a few years away, it will be fascinating to see what previous fantasy films influence the look and direction of the Zelda film.

With this in mind, what is your favorite fantasy content outside of the Zelda series? What are the fantasy books, movies, television series, and video games you engage with when you are not playing Zelda games?

I absolutely adore fantasy stories, so it is very difficult to narrow down a list of my favorites. In terms of books, The Princess Bride by William Goldman and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab are two of my favorites. The Princess Bride is among the most charming and humorous fantasy stories ever created, and its film adaptation is extremely fun as well. A Darker Shade of Magic explores the concept of multiple worlds in a fascinating way, and it is a dark, violent adventure story. One of my favorite fantasy shows is The Dragon Prince, which recently wrapped up its sixth season on Netflix. The animated show has a wonderful cast of character, and it has a richly developed fantasy world. Finally, for games, I recently started playing Dark Souls: Remastered for the first time, and I cannot stop thinking about the dank, crumbling world of Lordran.
