Daily Debate: What Do You Think the Purple Rift is in Echoes of Wisdom?

Since the release of the trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, I have been fascinated by the purple, bottomless rift that sucks our favorite hero away. What is it? Where did it come from? Where is it sending the people it swallows?
Seeing that this game likely falls into the Downfall Timeline which often features stories with alternate worlds like Lorule from A Link Between Worlds or the Dark World in A Link to the Past, I wonder if the rift leads to another alternative dark world that Zelda will have to traverse! There are a few clips in the trailer of Princess Zelda navigating some parts of this new dark abyss, so perhaps it is some sort of new shadow realm of Hyrule? Or, maybe it’s simply a new ploy from Ganon, designed to slowly destroy the kingdom he can’t conquer? Time will tell!
