A month later and I’m still analyzing the very short amount of footage we received about Tears of the Kingdom during the September Nintendo Direct. Taking a closer look at the official cover art, you can see a lot going on down below the skies that Link is soaring through.

At first I was a little worried that the surface we explored and came to love in Breath of the Wild wouldn’t change much in the sequel, but from a closer look at the cover art, you can see malice spewing from Death Mountain, a tornado in what appears to be the Hebra region, and of course, the floating remains of Hyrule Castle. It seems that whatever happened in the caverns below Hyrule has affected almost the entire surface of Hyrule. There are also strange green glowing glyphs across the land in the trailer as well–the same Zonai-esque magic that has been present since the first trailer.

What does it all mean?

Well firstly it means this will be the longest 7 months of my life until the game is released. At least that gives us time to theorize the possibilities! Time will tell.

What do you think is happening on the surface in Tears of the Kingdom? Let me know in the comments!
