This morning, Nintendo presented both an Indie World Showcase and Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, a double-feature that doesn’t happen very often. While there was no news of Zelda or any impending information on the successor to the Nintendo Switch console, we got treated to a collection of games from various genres, styles, and developers.

One game that stood out to me was Neva, a game by Barcelona-based Nomada Studio. This game seems to incorporate elements of nature with a 2D platforming gameplay style that has risen in popularity in the last decade or so. The graphics are colorful and dynamic, and it seems like the developers got a lot of inspiration from stories like Princess Mononoke, as they discuss how the main character is accompanied by a cub wolf to fight forces of evil in the world. This shows its comparability to Zelda games, particularly Twilight Princess and the “Wild Era” games, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Neva is releasing on multiple platforms on October 15th of this year, so it says a lot that they chose a Nintendo Indie World Showcase to reveal this to the rest of the gaming community.

Another game that stood out to me was Moth Kubit, a product of Astrolabe Games that puts the player in what feels accurately described as a “Kafka-esque” RPG. In Moth Kubit, you play the role of a moth in an office of other bugs, working to solve mysterious happenings. While this game isn’t my particular cup of tea and doesn’t have any apparent relatability to Zelda games, the hype around it seems pretty substantial, and the presentation of the game displayed its potential well.

Also presented in the Indie World Showcase was DLC for the popular turn-based RPG Sea of Stars, a roguelike game by Annapurna called Morsels, and a sequel to the challenging co-op game Pico Park. The Partner Showcase included a 40th anniversary collection of Tetris games (including a new game that combines previous Tetris games), titled Tetris Forever. It also included a racing-style action-adventure game, Star Overdrive, and, of course, the long-awaited Switch arrival of Goat Simulator 3.

These are just a few of the many games presented this morning in the double Nintendo Direct. I’m sure I left out a game that excited you, so let us know in the comments what games you’re excited to see coming to the Nintendo Switch!
