Daily Debate: Should Zelda Have a Trophy/Achievement System?
Posted on April 25 2021 by Ryan Jensen
Although Nintendo has never utilized an achievement system integrated into their consoles like Xbox or Sony, some Nintendo games do have an achievement system individually built into their game. Games like Paper Mario: The Origami King or Luigi’s Mansion 3 have achievements built into the game so that players can track their progress and undertake challenges that give them rewards besides standard game completion.
What about the Zelda series though? If we use Breath of the Wild as our example, certain items were given for completion of tasks like finishing the compendium or collecting all the Korok Seeds, but those don’t need to be the only things to give a reward. Maybe there could be an achievement tied to using Flurry Rush for a certain amount of time or gliding a certain distance. Maybe there could be one for defeating your first Lynel or completing the game within a certain amount of time. Achievements add extra ways to enjoy the game that players may not have thought of otherwise, and even make it easier to quantify how much of the game you played in a way that isn’t just an hour count.
Personally, I would love to see a system like this added to future Zelda games. Maybe we could have a trophy wall in-game that adds a new trophy for every accomplishment. Or maybe a special photo gets added to your album instead.
What do you think? Do you think the Zelda series should add a trophy/achievement system? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below!
