One of the most memorable villains in the Zelda franchise, in my opinion, has been Dark Link. There’s just something about that battle in Ocarina of Time where he makes his first 3D appearance, and knowing that Link is battling the darkness in his heart.

He’s made other appearances throughout the series, including his first in Zelda II :The Adventure of Link as the final boss of the game, and Twilight Princess, though he is merely used as a visionary tool in a cutscene. There was even a Dark Link in Hyrule Warriors, however, the game isn’t really considered canon. This said, though, it feels as if Dark Link hasn’t made a real appearance in a while. So here’s the question. Should Dark Link be given a bigger role, or left out of future Zelda games?

There is certainly the potential for Dark Link to perhaps be one of the greatest enemies our hero has ever faced. Perhaps even greater and more memorable than Ganon. If there’s anyone who could take down Link, it would be Dark Link. Who would know him better and know each one of his weaknesses? But if Dark Link is used for this purpose in each of his appearances, then is there a point to keep bringing him back? While it has the potential to make an absolutely amazing story, it could potentially keep him from making another appearance.

What makes him enticing as a villain? Is it the idea that Link needs to overcome himself? Or should that be a once and done deal? What other kind of role could Dark Link have in the future? Lots of questions, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
