It was recently announced that LEGO is finally releasing an officially licensed set for The Legend of Zelda! LEGO The Legend of Zelda – Great Deku Tree 2 in 1 Set is currently available for pre-order for $299.99. LEGO sets often come with a heavy price for the toy brick brand, so is The Great Deku Tree’s heafty price worth it?

My husband loves LEGO, and I do too. Our home has sets scattered about as decor and we’ve bought sets varying from $14 sunflowers to $100 plus Star Wars sets. LEGO has definitely made a name for themselves, but when it comes to their larger sets, especially licensed sets, that’s when you start to see a major jump in price. Search any Mario related set on LEGO’s website and you’ll be met with some hefty price points from $199.99 to $269.99. Many of the sets like The Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block are advertised to consumers ages 18+, just like The Great Deku Tree. Though LEGO is often seen through the eyes of children using their imaginations and building to their heart’s content there’s another age of LEGO consumers that builds to collect, and The Great Deku Tree is marketed, in my opinion, to those consumers.

When I built my LEGO Orchids a handful of years ago I enjoyed the build, but for me, it’s a display piece. I have zero desire to take it apart and “play” with it like I would my son’s LEGOs.  For many, The Great Deku Tree set will be a statement piece for many Zelda collectors. The price I feel is high in comparison to the Mario licensed sets, but not uncommon for any other official collector’s item that you might find online. Having said all of that, I find myself a little indifferent to the price. LEGO is a good brand and has made a name for themselves that boasts quality when partnered with officially licensed brands. Though the first Zelda set is expensive, I’m not too surprised, and I feel like this will be worth the price for those willing to pay. Hopefully we’ll see it marked down in the future to be more affordable for those not willing to fork over $300 for a set that will set on a shelf. I’ll be hoping for that lucky day.

What do you think though? Is The Great Deku Tree set worth its price point? What would you price the set as? Let us know in the comments below.
